These push button motors have a tendency to freeze up when they aren't used a lot. When you push the button can you hear it trying to engage, or does it just blink and then go back to 2 hi? My first guess would be a faulty motor.

I would have someone else sit inside and push the botton with the vehicle in park. Then lay under the vehicle and see if you can hear it engage in 4 wheel drive or not. If it is just whining like it's trying to go but can't then the motor or the shaft is frozen up. If it's actually engaging and shifting back and forth, but it's not actually going into 4 wheel drive you may have a burned up transfer case. These tcases are really finicky about having exactly the same tire sizes. So if your rear tires are really worn and the fronts are pretty good it's extremely hard on these transfer cases. Sometimes you can get them to free up by attempting to shift them into 2hi 4hi 4low, but it's hard on the motor if it's really stuck. Without taking either the motor off, or the tcase out it will be hard to diagnose an actual issue here. I would start by removing the motor and testing it to see if it is actually moving when you hit the bottons. Just make sure you but it back in whatever gear you had it in before you reconnect it. Usually N is the best choice. If the motor works properly then it's probably a transfer case. Rebuild kits for these are pretty inexpensive, new chains and bearings are about 200.00. It would cost about 250 with oil to rebuild it. I can walk you through it if you want... Just let me know.

1993 4X4 BLASER 4WHEEL DRIVE

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!

2001 Chevy Blazer 4 wheel drive

The four wheel drive systems in these vehicles are simple. The push button controls the four wheel drive computer. The computer tells the encoder motor (on transfer case) to shift. When the transfer case shifts there is a vaccum switch on the transfer that is activated which sends vaccum to the accuator under the battery. The accuator pulls a cable to lock the front axle in. This covers all s series trucks and suv's with push button four wheel drive but not with auto or all wheel. Now to answer some questions. If your push button is lit up but will not go in to four high you should try to reset the four wheel drive computer. To reset pull the courtesy light and atc fuses for sixty seconds install fuses then cycle key on and off 5 times. If your transfer case shifts but your front end does not lock in check for vaccum at the switch on the transfer case in and out. If no vaccum out replace switch motormite number 49315 at parts store. If you have vaccum out check accuator.
