Question about 1996 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

1996 Ford Taurus will not start. The car has power and gas.

1996 Ford Taurus will not start. The car has power (Radio, lights, heater, etc...) When I turn the key, the engine tries to start, but never actually gets going. This has happened before, and the mechanic mentioned a "spark coil" coming loose, though I'm not sure if that's the term he used. He only had the car in the shop about 20 minutes last time this happened, which makes me think it might be something I can fix myself. Any suggestions?

Spark coils are located on top center of the engine under hood. wiggle connections and see if there are any loose. If you can not find the coils, follow the spark plug wires back from the spark plug it will lead to the coil. good luck

I have a 99 Taurus and sometimes when I start the car there are no lights on in the radio heater pod.. If the heater was on when I shut the car off it still is on but you cannot control it. Radio is off...

You probably have some loose connections at the Heater switch. Radio and other devices may connect at the same location. There may also be broken wires although rare. Since everything is behind the dash you will need a good light and inspection mirror. Another way is a fiber optic camera or perhaps a small digital camera linked to a laptop.

If I have a 1996 ford taurus GL my battery when the car is not started test out putting 12.05 volts which the mechanic at less Schwab said is okay. But when I turn the key the volts drop to 11.55 sometimes...

It's normal to drop when the key is turned because your electronics are running like your fuel pump, radio, etc. When you start the car it should jump between 13 and 14 volts when running.

I have a 2000 ford taurus and the radio quit working and the heater come on when you start the car and the heater is off

We have a 1998 Ford Taurus that has the radio in an oval bezel that has the heater controls also on it.

If this is like your vehicle, then when you remove the radio using two coat hangers shaped like a 'C' then you can see where the electrical connections go for the fan and the heater setting.

The radio in our 1998 Ford Taurus started to malfunction with the volume level not being adjustable.

After taking the radio out, and putting it back in, a week later the problem went away, mysteriously, and to my surprise.

Hope this helps.

My 1996 ford taurus will not crank or start.i washed the engine down and after that it didnt start anymore. all lights turn on and the battery is new.

go to a local jobber parts dealer like Napa etc and ask for quick dry or wire dry spray.. mention these two names and if the employee has a clue of what your talking about he will sell you a can.. ususally about 5 bucks. then take it to your car and spray the distributor and the spark plug wires generously.. this will fix you problem gaaaaaaaaarantied

The heater fan doesn't work on my 1996 Ford Taurus. I looked for a fan fuse in the fuse box but couldn't find one. Any suggestions?

Check to see if you have power at the heater fan. It should be right under your glove box. Find the plug in and unplug it use a test light to see if you have power. If there is power at the fan plug than you need a new blower motor. Check in the fuse box under the hood for a relay or fuse also.
