I have a 1995 Mazda 626 I have been reading about the OD Light blinking and engine light on as I am trying to fix this myself without having to replace the tranny. ( I am a female) I have changed the fluid...

Hello littlemegmb, I am so sorry your having issues with your transmission.
My best guess with the info you posted.
1. I have to ask, because you didn't mention it. Are you sure you used the right fluid?
I am pretty sure that the 95 Mazda is supposed to have Dextron II, or higher. using the wrong fluid can cause some of the issues you are having, and can do perminent damage. If you are not positive that you used the right fluid, please call any parts store and give them the info on your car so they can look up the right fluid. Also, ask them how many quarts you should need when you change the fluid, I think it's around 7 quarts
2. If you know for sure that you used the right fluid, myself, I would let the car run for about 5 minutes, then check your tranny dip stick to make sure that you put enough fluid back in to the tranny, it needs to be checked while it's hot.
99% of the time, when a transmission is slipping, or, it wont move, it's low on fluid.
You do need to be mindful that it is very easy to overfill the transmission, which can lead to other serious issues.
3. One reason that the transmission seems to work better when it's cold, is, all the fluid has had a chance to drain down into the pan, but, once the car is started the fluid again begans to circulate leaving the level in the pan way to low.
I really, really hope that you find it's something simple like the fluid is way too low.
That is my best guess.
Good luck!

200 740il no reverse when cold , once warms up some reverse

If you haven't had the Transmission filter replaced lately i would start there. If you filter is clogged and it is cold the fluid gets thicker making it hard to circulate through transmission When the car warms it heats the fluid enough to circulate through the clogged filter some what and then give's you the reverse but not totally. It can be done on your own with a set of ramps. You have to drain the tranny fluid then take out the bolts for the tranny filter housing . Replace the filter then fill the franny back with new fluid. If that doesn't work then you have either Band slip-age and need a tranny tune up or you have deeper issues. But it is always a good point to start with the filter when you have problems of that nature. If you have never had a tranny tune up then maybe you should take it to a certified transmission mechanic to have it tuned just for general purpose that way they will also diagnose the problem. One word to the wise. Take it somewhere were you trust them because if not you may be told that you need a new tranny and you really won't.

2002 ford escort zx2 tranny slipping from Andrew

Yes. Having owned a trans repair shop, I will tell you, never change fluid on a slipping trans or one that the fluid is very dark and stinks. Why? It will slip even more, to the point that you can't use it.

The Trans is burnt inside and has to be rebuilt or replaced with a remanufactured one. $1600.00 or more

I will be kind here, which is hard for me being a car guy.
Why did you buy a vehicle at an auction?

You buy cheap, you got nothing. I would expect those kind of problems, when deciding on a purchase such as you made and leave room in the puchase price to cover spending at least two weeks going thru the entire vehicle before putting it on the road.

1992 grand prix transmission slip in reverse

Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the trans may help (must remove valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan).

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Auto transmission slips then grabs

first thing i would try is changing the transmission fluid out and filter, i beleive its almost 8 quarts. use a full quart of lucas transmission additive with the new fluid. if this doesn't help, the transmission will either need replaced or rebuilt

Slipping Trans - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Change the fluid. Since you only get about half of the fluid to drain during a change (the rest is held in the torque converter with no way to drain it), you will have to change the fluid three times in order to dilute the "dirty" fluid with enough clean fluid to make the end product mostly clean. Change the fluid, then run the car for awhile. Repeat two more times. And only use Honda fluid.

Ya still battling it . we flushed the tranny and it was fine for awhile but its just as bad if not worse. Volkswagon dealer gave me a huge run around and no answers. I thought i was getting stroked at $3500 for a new tranny but sounds like they realy want to nail you with $4500. No the catalytic replacement didnt fix the problem just a way to get more money out of me.
I didnt let the dealer replace the tranny and we drove it . it drives fine once its warmed up but first thing in the morning it slips. and it seems to be getting worse. I swung by a local shop not a dealer and he told me they have sensors . and may be a simple fix. but if not ya have to replace the tranny for its a sealed unit and they just cant be worked on. I regret buying it. let me know if ya find a solution. my e mail is fesup@q.com
