JEEP LIBERTY 2005 engine failure?

Apparently a total engine failure... the car only has 50,800 miles on it! it was running fine...a bit rough (thought it was just the "truck" feel)...then yesterday...REALLY rough with clanging, etc.
Mechanic said it needs a rod bearing, head gasket...??? 50K miles and a blown engine?

I bought the car "as is" from a Volvo dealership...drove it only 1800 miles (2.5 months) I have ANY recourse?

It was last serviced AT the dealer. They went through (supposedly) a full inspection, fluids, etc.

My wife and I have only driven the car VERY "lightly" (highway and local errands)...and put only 1800 miles on the car in 2.5 to 3 months.

The laws vary by state. Check your lemon laws, with it only be 4 years old you may be able to get a repair history on it and have it lemoned out. Also, check with your dealership and see if there is anything they will do to retain your business. Also, read the fine print on your agreement, it may have a loophole in it you can get out on. a bad rod bearing sounds like it ran out of oil, check your oil and see if it has water in it or oil in the water, that would confirm the blown head gasket.

YOu really dont have alot of options, you pretty much at the mercy of the dealership. I had bought a bad car once and the dealer was willing to take it back for what I paid, however mine did stil run.

Honda oddysey 2005 transmission juddering during driving

I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey that experienced such a problem. When at idle, the engine was a bit rough and during acceleration from a stop, the effect was like the transmission was juddering. I also noticed that the problem would show up at certain speeds that correlated with the green fuel efficiency light in the dash which meant that the engine was running on 3 cylinders.

In our case, the repair consisted of replacing the rear electronic or active motor mount. This motor mount is electronically controlled to damp the engine vibrations resulting from 3/6 cylinder switching. At around 30-60K miles these apparently can fail where some of the units even show some damage by bulging from the soft parts.

After replacement (around $700.00 total parts and labor in OC, California), the car was like new again making the pain at the repair shop less painful.

I hope this helps with your problem.

Jeep Liberty 2005 3.7 engine running hot, need to install thermostat? fan working, full of water , water tank cap fits good.

A new thermostat would be the easiest and cheapest to do first. There is also the water pump but that normally would cause a complete overheat, probably after about 20-30 miles, water boiling out the overflow.Good luck! Greg

The check engine light came on and suddenly the idle is rough on 2002 jeep liberty-135k miles. Possible problems?

Hello there, Id say the EGR system has an issue. Have you been noticing decreased fuel milage prior to the rough running? Do you have a code scanner by chance? Autozone and Checker auto provide a free code scan , and that should place you in the right direction. Thank you , Quinn Texada

2005 Jeep Liberty stuck in Part Time 4wd

I questioned the dealer about my 2005 because mine was disengaging what I thought to be rough compared to what I was used to. They told me that I should shift the vehicle into Neutral before shifting the selector. I have also found that shifting between Reverse and Drive a couple of times while stopped has helped as well. By doing these couple of things, I have had no trouble since. I hope this helps as it might at least be something to try.

2003 Liberty engine runs rough then stalls

Time to check sensors. I'd start with tps, map and mass air flow sensor if used. Many "supermarket" style parts outlets will scan your system for codes. Start there to give yourself some general direction on what to look at.(of course you will check ignition components, cap, wires, rotor and coil... believe it or not, even if there is residue around plugs, it generally won't give you that problem, though it should be blown out of there with compressed air or something before removing plugs)
