2003 Ford Crown Victoria misfires when

2003 Ford Crown Victoria stutters-misfires when accelerating quickly from dead stop or when stepping down on the accelerator to pass. Drives fine once I've reached cruising speed.

My mechanic replaced the car's original spark plugs and two original coil packs (all WAY overdue with 130,000 miles on them) and also replaced the fuel filter, which had 40,000 miles on it. The second I turned the ignition, the difference was astounding and undeniable. I brought it in limping like a junkyard reject, and a couple hours later they had it running like a new State Trooper car. Thanks for the help everyone!

I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON SEVERAL CROWN VICS I HAVE WORKED ON ,& SOME OF THEM A SET OF PLUGS STOPPED IT,AND SOME OF THEM HAD TO HAVE 1 OR MORE COIL PACKS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM THAT I FOUND THAT IF PLUGS & ALL COIL PACKS HAD BEEN REPLACED,AND IT WAS STILL IN THE IGNITION, IS THE WIRES GOING INTO THE PLUG ON THE COILPACK UNDER THE INTAKE TUBE, IF YOU REMOVE THE INTAKE TUBE,LOOK CLOSE AT THE WIRES FOR ANY BARE SPOTS,& LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE INTAKR TUBE IF YOU CAN SEE WHERE IT HAS RUBBED IT,IT IS ALMOST A GIVEN THERE IS A BARE SPOT OR CRACKED INSOLATION ON THE WIRE, ENOUGH TO CAUSE A MISFIRE, (FYI) IT TOOK ME MANY TIMES OF INSPECTING BEFORE I LOOKED CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THE BARE SPOTS, BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS STRIP THE HARD PLASTIC AROUND THE WIRES BACK ENOUGH TILL YOU SEE GOOD CLEAN LOOKING WIRE,THEN SEPERATE THE WIRES AND IF YOU HAVE LIQUID ELECTICAL TAPE USE THAT AND THEN TAPE THEM WITH ROLL ELECTRICAL TAPE ,BUT IF YOU TAPE THEM UP GOOD SO WHEN THE WIRE IS BENT ENOUGH FOR THE INTAKE TUBE TO CLEAR ,& YOU CANNOT SEE THE WIRES GOING IN TO THE PLUG WITH A ROLL OF ELECTRICAL TAPE THAT WILL WORK TOO, I HOPE THIS TRICK WILL WORK AS GOOD FOR YOU AS HAS ME ON DOZENS OF CROWN VICS, ESPECIALLY P71 POLICE CARS.

Hello there:
I would recommend first getting the fuel injectin system cleaned and then you may want to consider getting new plugs and wires and maybe a new egr valve and pvc valve
Also if you use a higher grade of gasoline this will help clean out the fuel injection system and keeps it more cleaner
OK?
I hope that this has been very helpful for you
best regards MIchael

Oil is leaking into the gasket, causing one of the spark plugs to misfire. I have replaced the spark plugs, but fuel lines over the gasket prevent me from replacing it. How do I go about fixing this? ...

This is caused by a defective cylinder head cam cover gasket, this allows oil to leak into and fill the well the spark plug is in and short out the cylinder, replace the cam cover gasket.

I have a 2003 cvp. As I accelerate to get on the freeway, or under severe load, the check engine light blinks. Code was misfire in cylinder 6. A mechanic felt it was not the coil or the spark plug, but...

More than likely you have a misfire due to a coil. In 11 years of working at a ford dealer as a driveabilty specialist I have never seen a crown vic injector fail. If it has a misfire code again I would replace the coil and plug on the appropriate cylinder.

2003 Crown Vic Misfiring after acceleration

I just came up with that exact issue in my 2003 with 98K police crown vic. And the last time I had this issue in a 2001 police Crown vic it was the crank shaft position sensor. A $20 part and about 30 mins to put it in. located near the bottom of the engine. I had to un bolt the A/C compressor and push it out of the way a few inches to get to the sensor. If you have about 100K mile on it and its an idled heavy police car, this sensor should be changed out anyway. It can leave you on the road dead and some dealers have a hard time find out whats wrong as the OBD 2 does not see it as a problem when it goes bad or becomes touchy as I think mine is.
