Question about 2000 GMC Yukon XL

1 Answer

My Yukon only starts well when its cold, and dies sometimes when stopping at a light. Fuel Pump, Fule Filter or Spark Plugs? Actually, I get it started all the time, but I have to really turn it over and/or give 'er gas.

Could be fuel filter or leaky vacuum lines.
If you have check/service engine light on, you may have faulty 02 sensors or idle positon sensor and possibly throttle position sensor could be faulty. You can test them with an ohmmeter in the ohm setting to test.

FUEL FILTER,,IF IT IS OLD-REPLACE!
FUEL PUMP NOT REALLY SUSPECT.....BUT POSSIBLE AS IN A THERMAL SHORTING (AFTER A SHORT TIME)
YOU HAVE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THIS DELAYED STALL ISSUE, IS COMING FROM A FUEL OR ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. IE: ELECTRIC CUT OUT...SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER...FUEL ISSUES: ROUGH RU..THEN SHUTS DOWNNING, BUCKING & SURGING
IF YOUR NOT FIXED...JEFF AT: JLGPROP@!YAHOO.COM THE WORX GROUP L.L.C.

2003 gmc yukon acts like its not getting fuel. I have replaced the fuel filter but still have the same problem. If you spray starter fluid in it, it will start up and run, sometimes rough and sometimes...

A fuel filter won't fix anything

Just like replacing a blown fuse does nothing

You need to diagnose the problem first

It may act any number of ways to you

Have you confirmed fuel pressure on a gauge
or looking at scan tool software?

Does the pump come on when it doesn't start
& what does the gauge say when you cycle the key?

Do you have a check light on dash or stored codes
you can only see on professional scan tool?

Do you even know how long the spark plugs are
in the motor or looked at fuel trim,or module voltage,
or O2 sensor data?

Right now it sounds as though you have no knowledge about
vehicles & haven't actually done anything

What does work & how do you know that

You have to test the entire truck, then work on the faults
you find

2002 Yukon Hesitation when starting- No checking engine lights!!

This can be fuel pump related or just fuel filter related, spark plugs and injectors.
When engine is cold vaporization of gasoline is minimum. When fuel vapor is less than required and the fuel mixture is not ideal, ignition happens harder than it does under ideal running conditions of engine. When fuel pups is sweak, or filter is limiting, or fuel injectors are not injecting gasoline with improper pattern inside engine, or just becasue of corroded spark plugs, cold engine faces difficulties during first ignition.

PS: sometimes car starts and stalls.it fails to start once more. this can be a sign of broken crank position sensor. FYI.

Thought the fuel pump was bad, engine died but after hitting tank with mallet it started up and ran. replace fuel filter. started and ran a few min then died wouldnt start up. replace fuel relay still wont...

If you hit the tank and it ran? The fuel pump is bad. By striking the tank you jarred the pump, causing what mechanics call "The last ride" Peice of sound advise, Replace with ac delco pump. The zone pumps go out usaly within months if not days

I have a 1987 2 wheel drive suburban 5.7 v8 and I just stopped a signal light and it died. I put it in park it started right away and when I depressed the brake and tried to engage it to drive it died...

No. It is either a fuel or ignition problem. Check for spark, and then fuel. Your filter could be plugged, or fuel pump may have given out. I assume it's fule injected? You should be able to hear the pump cut in for a couple of seconds. If it's carburated , just take the breather off, and pump the gas a couple of times. You should see gas squirting in the carb.
If there's no spark, check wires, distributor, etc.

My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero does not start. It cranks fine, has a new battery, new spark plugs, and I can hear the fuel pump working. I was thinking of checking the fuel filter next. Much help needed

check for a good spark first, if there is none look at ignition circuits its more likley this part,
it could also be the car alarm the immobiliser shutting of the ignition ""stops it getting nicked?"
try resetting the alarm if you take off pipe to carb and there is fule pumping out!!! fule filter is "ok" for starting up on!!! take care working with fule!

1992 chevrolet lumina that cuts off sometimes won't start acts like it has trash in the line. It has new fuel filter, tune up, core pads, plugs and wires.

I hade the same problem, but I figured it out, My car is a 1992 chevey lumina Base modle sadan, v6/3.1L This car is electricly based, regardless of your problem replace all Fuses and Relays your fule injection, heater cor, every thing. trust me.

MY CAR PROBLEM: car would stutter and want to die every time I came to a stop, or slowed down. When I start the car it would idle really high, when I shift in to drive it would go back to normal, for a little bit. I checked my electrical center located on passenger side under the hood. I found that my fule pump relay had blown out. this is the main reason for fule pump going out. theas fuses are the real thing that makes this car run. replace them all. thay are like 20.00 dollars a pop but it will save you hundreds.

SECOND: bought a bottle of fule injection cleaner. spray this into your throttle body, connected to the air filter. lots of gunk. after that car stopped stuttering and has not died yet. I did my maintance on 7/15/08

good place to start. good luck
