Rear defoster test good does not work

Rear defoster on my 2007 equinox will not melt morning frost. The window defroster never worked but the car is garage keep so the usage over the last two winters is minimal. Brought car in before warrenty ran out and the window tested good with a voltmeter done by the dealer.
With the window frosted up from the night frost I started the car, trun on the rear defoster, and let the car run for 10 minutes.
The light in the switch was lite the full time but no frost was melted. Not even the frost by the heater line in the window. Returned to dealer and the dealer retested with voltmeter which show window working. I did get charge $120.00 for the troubleshooting time.

and ruRear defoster tested good with a voltage test, by dealer but does not defrost morning frost with 10 minutes of running. work on my 2007 equinox.

Get yourself a 12 volt testlamp. Connect the clamp to one of the terminals on the rear defroster, either side. Next, touch the pointed end of the testlamp towards the other side of the glass.
Then, repeat the procedure, clamping the clamp on the other side terminal.

If you have a bright light all of the way across, you do not have a ground
If you have no light at all, you have no voltage
If the light gets dimmer, the farther you move away from the clamped terminal, the grid is operating normally.

Why did they charge you for 'diagnostics' when you know darn well it does not work? It is under warranty, correct? It is their obligation to find the problem and fix it AT NO COST TO YOU!

Amazing that they can get away with charging that much for what should take under ten minutes to do!
If the heating grid is intact (checked with an ohmeter or continuity tester) and there is power at the grid connections, with a good ground, there is no reason that it should not work. What you did not mention is if left on and standing if the frost ever melts if given more time. (voltage may be present but may be low) The grid needs full battery voltage to operate correctly! If you have a volt meter available you can easily check it yourself.

Toyota 2007 avalon rear defroster not working. Mirror defrost is working. What is wrong?

First check all fuses, second check for 12v power at the connector to th rear window, a test light or volt meter on dc voltage,if there is power use an ohm meter to check the window grid with the power connector disconnected.if open the connection is either open or bad. if there was no power at the connector check the power from switch all the way back to the window

Block Hester's are generally installed in the freeze plugs. There will be three on the front and three on the back. The instruction say rear center so it will be the center frost plug on the rear of the block

My rear window defroster only partially works with only a few elements working and the inside of the rear window frosts up. Why is that and how can I fix the defroster?

The element is imprinted onto the glass and some of your conductors must be cracked. The only repair is a window replacement. You might be able to get hold of a good second hand one, but have it checked out first. Measure the total resistance of a window you know is good and compare it to any used one you intend tp buy.

The rear defroster is not working

check for current at the back electrodes that connect to the heating element for rear defroster.
check that the light goes on the button area for it to verify if any power is going to the circuit.
check for a fuse that powers the rear defroster.
Also, check that the relay for it is clicking or provides power to the rear defoster.

Good luck for this repair.

I put the back wiper on earlier in the week to clean off the frost. It swiped across the window once and has since quit working. I have the switch off but we can hear a noise in the rear door and also...

Sounds like your rear wiper switch has shorted. If you can pull it out of the dash or get the panel off and get behind the switch you can disconnect it and see if that stops it. If it does you can get a new one later and replace it.

Speedometer/odometer does not work and rear defost always on

From your description, the instrument cluster has a short. These cannot be repaired, only replaced. This has become very common on 2000 and later vehicles, regardless of make.

2003 Chevy Cavlier Rear Window Defroster not working

I had the exact same problem and I had determined that it was in the wires leading to the rear defrost. The main problem area is in a connector located under the footrest for the drivers left foot under the carpet. The wire leading to the rear defrost runs through the drivers side under the plastic moulding in the car frame, the wire is black and the thickest one in the bundle. A large green/blue connector usually melts the plastic around the connection causing it to fail. I fixed this by just getting a new connector similar to my old one from a junkyard and just rewired it, connecting the same wires the connector as before. It is in an awful location but it is possible to do. Be sure solid connections are made and soldered correctly to prevent this from happening again.
