Question about 2004 Toyota Highlander
Thanks for using FixYa. This is happening because the Radio stays on even when the car is turned off. This may happen when the relay for radio is burnt or faulty. Also get the car checked for any trouble codes, as this might be an issue with the ECM, which is malfunctioning every time.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and ensure it doesn't contact any metal parts. Place the transmission into the "Drive" position and set the parking brake.
Remove the trim from around the stereo by prying at one of the bottom corners with your fingers. Apply pressure until the clips disengage and work your way up the trim. Once the trim is free from the dash set it safely aside.
Locate and remove the six 10mm bolts that hold the stereo in place. Pull the head unit out of the Toyota highlander dash and disconnect the wires from the back of the radio.
Connect the wiring harness adaptor to the original harness. Mount the new stereo into the Toyota radio mounting kit and secure it by following the manufacturer's instructions. Plug the wiring harness adaptor and antenna wire into the back of the new stereo.
Slide the entire stereo assembly into the dash and reconnect the battery cable. Turn the radio on and verify the speakers and controls are working on the new stereo. Secure the stereo in the dash with the six 10mm bolts and replace the trim ring around the radio.
