Question about 2004 Toyota Highlander

1 Answer

After I bought my 2004 Toyota Highlander a year ago I had a stereo, satellite radio and remote starter installed.. Within a month I had the problem that my car didn't start, I had left it over the weekend in cold weather and didn't start it and so the battery was dead, I took it into the dealership they changed the battery and sent me on my way, the vehicle was fine for a bit but then did it again, so again another battery... by the 3rd time it did this the dealership said that it was the after market stereo, so I had some tests done and eventually had the stereo changed out (which later was determined was working fine in another vehicle) after it did it again in the warmer months I had the stereo et al checked and repaired and since then everything has been working fine until today.. I don't understand what could be the problem now...

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This is happening because the Radio stays on even when the car is turned off. This may happen when the relay for radio is burnt or faulty. Also get the car checked for any trouble codes, as this might be an issue with the ECM, which is malfunctioning every time.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

2004 toyota highlander abs and brake light stay on and it will not shift

hi there..... if you have a abs light on this means there is a problem
with the abs. and its usually a wheel sensor. but could be one of several problems. the only way to remove the light is to repair the fault
that is something that's isn't within the scope of the diy motorist.
and would require a visit to the professionals. only then will the light be
reset. and go out.

How to remove and put the a new radio in a toyota highlander 2002

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable and ensure it doesn't contact any metal parts. Place the transmission into the "Drive" position and set the parking brake.

  • 2

Remove the trim from around the stereo by prying at one of the bottom corners with your fingers. Apply pressure until the clips disengage and work your way up the trim. Once the trim is free from the dash set it safely aside.

  • 3

Locate and remove the six 10mm bolts that hold the stereo in place. Pull the head unit out of the Toyota highlander dash and disconnect the wires from the back of the radio.

  • 4

Connect the wiring harness adaptor to the original harness. Mount the new stereo into the Toyota radio mounting kit and secure it by following the manufacturer's instructions. Plug the wiring harness adaptor and antenna wire into the back of the new stereo.

  • 5

Slide the entire stereo assembly into the dash and reconnect the battery cable. Turn the radio on and verify the speakers and controls are working on the new stereo. Secure the stereo in the dash with the six 10mm bolts and replace the trim ring around the radio.

My kids put pennies in the cd player of my 2003 toyota highlander. now the radio won't even turn on

SORRY BUT THE RADIO MUST BE REMOVED AND SENT TO AREPAIR SHOP.
BUT FOR THE COST OF REPAIRING IT YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE A AFTER MARKET UNIT INSTALLED.
AND A NEW FACTORY ONE IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

    2002 highlander radio code

Good news: You do not have to worry about you issue.
Your radio (if it is a "factory" radio) does NOT require a security reset code. You do not have an "anti-theft" radio. You can disconnect the battery cables at will, and the only issue you will have is that you will lose the preset stations that you set manually.
The "anti-theft" radios were abandoned by Toyota several years ago. Hope this eases your mind.
