The most common reason for this is that your brake pads have worn to the rivets. The rivets are digging into the rotor and will ruin them. That's what makes brakes grabby and noisy. You need to replace them ASAP. They're not safe like that and if you ruin the rotors they'll be around $50 each to replace.

My tahoe will not start sometimes but when it does and if you turn on the head light or press the breaks it will kill whats wrong

sounds like you have a electrical isssue, you possibly have a bad alternator the car is drawing too much voltage to stay running check battery and charging system

Steering seems to groan when turning...sounds like a pump laboring. is there a way to tell whether it is the pump or something else making the pump over-work?

Most Ford Windstars the power steering pump is the groan - very rare it is anything else - replace pump and use factory fluid

Air conditioner problems

If the air blows from the derfost and the footwells, then their may be a vacuum leak. Check under the hood there should be a vacuum line that goes from the firewall to a vacuum port on the intake manifold. Alot of times the line get corroded and breaks off.(If you find the pcv hose you are in the right direction)
