Techbuster is correct. You will need to remove the Upper intake manifold. There are several small bolts down in the center on the manifold. You should get a gasket set for the intake; costs about $10-14 at parts store.

Need to remove upper intake manifold to reach valve cover close to firewall.
1) The location of spark plugs 456 are under the plastic shield in front of the engine. It takes an 8mm socket to remove the three bolts holding the shield once the shield is removed you will see a coil for each spark plug. Use the 8mm socket and remove the coil and rubber boots. You will now see the spark plug (note there are not any spark plug wires).
2) The location of spark plugs 123 are located to the rear of the eng. You have to remove the air intake manifold in order to get to the spark plus. Remove the throttle wire then remove the other items on top of the intake manifold.

#5 spark plug is on the bank of the engine closest to the radiator. It will be in the middle of the three ignition coils that you see.

I have a 2001 ford escape xlt 4 wheel drive. i had a diagnostic test done & it said it detected a misfire in cylinder 3. i am a do it yourselfer and am going to change all 6 spark plugs but the problem...

I am assuming that you have a V6 Engine because 1, 3 and 5 would be on the other side of 2, 4 and 6. A Striaght in line engine would have them all in a row.

But another way to locate your spark plugs would be to find your Spark plug wires and follow them to the spark plug.

Good Luck

Need a diagram I am trying to install spark plugs on 2001 ford escape.

You dont need a diagram, just replace them. It helps a lot when you tell which engine you have when asking engine questions.
