Well you have to make sure the cooling fan truns on when car starts to run hot even before it gets hot, if it doesnt you may have a bad fan, or a bad coolant temp sensor, start there see if the cooling fan on the radiator trun on. it may also have a bad thermostant, but start with checking the fan ,hope this is helpful.

1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette overheating

Is it leaking antifreeze underneath the engine at all when it sits overnight? If so I would say the water pump is shot. If it isn't leaking, it could still be the water pump but it might(hopefully) just need a new thermostat. And driving it when it's hot like that to the point where it starts to run rough means you run it too much like that and your engine will blow up and there is probably already damage. So check it out before driving it to much more.

2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT 2.4L Low coolant light on, even with coolant reservoir full, car is overheating.

I think the first thing I would do is take the thermostat out and run the engine without it.
If the engine stops running hot, try a 180 degree instead of the 195.
As for the low coolant light, can you unplug the sensor and make the light go off ?

That is an over temperature indicator. It means your car is running hot.

1998 grand prix low coolant light keeps coming on thermostat, hoses, radaitor, and intake gaskits have been replaced...the radaitor is full everytime i check it

If the engine is running well and not running hot, chances are that the coolant level sensor has failed. You can either replace it or ignore the warning light and just check the level as "routine maintenance"
while checking your oil and other fluids weekly as every good vehicle owner does and has done since there were cars to drive.

Low coolant light comes on and stays on while driving. coolant level is good. the car doesn't overheat. do i need to replace the coolant tank or can I continue to drive the car with the light on?

Hi, the likely problem is a bad level switch/sensor on the reservoir. Try disconnecting the sensor to see if the light will go out. If not, the problem is in the wiring. Either way, there is no harm in driving the car with the light on.

My 1998 is running hot, I put coolant in it after you drive it for a while and turn the car off it leaks out and yesterday it would not start, Is it because the car to hot. how to fix the problem thanks

check your hoses first for small holes and cracks that coolant can come out of. if it isnt that check your water pump. a coolant system pressure test can pinpoint the spot for you; however, it is a horrible idea to be running your car hot to begin with. it can easily turn into a major problem such as warped heads or a head gasket if you continue to drive it to the point of overheating and in this state

Digital dash reads out low coolant and runs hot.

it means just what it says..your low on engine coolant and that is causing it to run extra hot...this is not good! let car cooldown and take radiator cap off have a look inside with a flashlite..water level should be almost up to the filler neck. if you have the red dex-cool you"ll have to put in the same its not recomended to mix the green and red. if it doesnt your in luck just fill up a jug or get a garden hose and fill it up to the top if its low. leave cap off for now and put some water in the coolant tank if its empty only about halfway dont overfill. now start the engine and let it warm up for about a minute and see if the water level goes down if it does add a little more water up to the neck, now turn off the engine and let it stay like that for another minute to make sure trapped air can get out. Now put back on the cap. Now go for a 10 min drive around town and then see if the warnings have cleared and its running at a normal temp range. also park in a new locating so after you turn your car off you can check to see if its go a slow leak overnight.

Coolant level warning

Means you need to add coolant to either the radiater or the overflow tank on your vehicle. If the engine is hot add to the overflow tank while engine is running in case it is low so it draws it into the engine. DO NOT open the radiator when it is hot as you could get burned by hot steam. If cool, take off the radiator cap and poor into radiator, then run for a while and then recheck the overflow tank to see it is between the MIN and MAX lines on the tank.
