Question about 1999 Audi A6

1 Answer

I have a 2004 A6. 3L. I seems as the battery is not charging. I could drive for say two hours. Go into a shop, leave the car radio on for the children. come out and the car is dead. I need to get jump leads to start it. This is an ongoing problem. Two years ago they said I needed to replace the battery. I did.The garage has just replaced my normal battery with a dignostic battery, whatever that is. What is the problem.

Sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery, when it doesnt start are you sure the battery is dead, i know you jump it but a faulty starter can od that also, if there are no inside lights or radio or headlights dont come on then its the battery and its defective or the alternator is not charging all the time may be bad, good luck hope this is helpful.

Can my car be jumped when the alternator is bad

YES . You will have to leave the jumper cables connected with the good car's engine running for 10 or 15 minutes to charge your battery . Turn off all lights , radio , heater , AC , etc . With all optional electricity users turned off , you can drive quite a ways to get to the " shop " . You can also take the battery out , and take it to AutoZone , . They , and some other places will charge a battery for free . Hooking the freshly charged battery back up will get you quite a distance if you shut off everything you can .

Several Electical Problems w/2004 Navigator

That auto has lots of mini computers to keep everything working. I would try a new battery after leaving the old battery disconnected for an hour. If everything works, run test light to determine if and where there is a drain on the battery.

Remove battery leave off for a few hours. good time to give a charge on mains charger, put the battery back on. now put key in ignition and turn to number 2 and leave it on number 2 for 10min or more the light should stay solid on the theft control. turn off ignition then turn back on slowly. the light should not come back on. if it does come back on. take the radio out and check the wires to the radio you can do this while the battery is off... there is a lot of wiring problems on this model so i have found.

Non working gages, windows, radio, & loss of power

Good chance that your alternator has gone bad and your electrical system was running off the battery. Best to have a shop re-charge the battery and do a charging test before doing any other diagnostics.

What could cause the battery to run down, even when the car is not started?

Hi, First check the doors that they are closed.(so the light goes out). Check the trunk that the light is out. Check the engine hood light if any is out. Second check that battery is charged and can hold a charge. If not the battery has internal discharge. Oh and ya have the radio looked at or turn it off when you leave.
Good luck.
