Question about Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

I have a 2000 pontiac grand am gt the check vehicle soon light has been on for a couple of month and jus recently the abs and trac off light needless to say i have had little to no problems with my car besides replacing the serpintine belt but jus recently i noticed my car smoking and was over heating. I then was told by a person who helped as i looked hopelessly under the hood that i needed a new belt (that was jus replaced less than 3mo ago)antifreeze so i added some the smoking stopped and my heat began working fine. then there was a problem with the heat blowing cool which if i needed antifreeze and added some my car was fine. Im addign antifreeze to my car quite a bit and jus recently noticed liquid under my car after it sat over night but today it was over heating and the warning light chimmed which really scared me so as a girl of course i pulled over pulled out mu manual and began to read possible reason why, which it wasnt any help.I made it to work safely but i am a lil worried about my drive home bcz i commute quite a way. what could be the cause of my car overheating, the constant need to add antifreeze as well as the reason the abs and trac off light to be on oh i did jus recently maybe a month ago have my breaks and rotors replace but ther light was on prior to that...thanks in advance

Wow!
The first thing you need to do is fill the coolant up again and take it to a shop that you trust, have them pressurize the coolant system to find the leak, then repair it.
But my fears are that who ever check it for you last saw a head gasket leaking and didn't want to fix it so said nothing,Also if your seeing white smoke behind you that is an engine burning antifreeze.

2000 grand am se abs light an trac off light and service engine soon light stays on, but i got the car scan and no codes come up

If you had the car scanned with a generic OBDII code reader (Which is what they use at all the parts stores) this is probably why it is not showing any codes. You have "Vehicle Specific" codes. This means that the problem with your Check Engine light is not a problem that will generate a "generic" OBD code. A generic OBD code reader will not read codes from your Antilock Brake System or your Traction Control System at all... You need to have it scanned professionally by someone who has the proper equipment and software to access the Controller Area Network (CAN) in your vehicle.

Abs light on and trac off light on new front brakes recently installed

First thing I would check if brakes were installed is that the abs wires did not accidentally get disconnected. If that did not occur you will need a scan tool to determine why the abs light came on. It is probably due to a bad wheel speed sensor. The trac light is on because currently your abs is disabled and the traction control requires use of the abs system to function.

I put the car in gear this morning and the abs service vehicle and trac off light came on and won't go off I also fixed a small leak on the tranny

CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON FRONT BRAKE ROTOR OR BRAKE PADS.IF BRAKES CONTAMINATED THE TRAC LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT WILL COME ON.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD LET DEALERSHIP CHECK OUT THE ABS BRAKES AND TRAC SYSTEM.THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

trac off abs light , the problem is in one of the wheel bearing, that is where the sensor is.

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

Pontiac 2002 se: veh soon light, trac light, abs light comes on

I have this same problem and had it checked. It is the wheel sensor. Mine is the passenger front right wheel sensor. According to the mechanic I take it to the GrandAm's are known for this. The part is about $40.

Lights that wont go away: Trac Off, ABS, Oil Change, Service Vehicle soon

Sorry tina , but you are going to need a new "cluster assembly" most likely. The cluster assembly is the dash instrument panel with all the gauges behind the clear lens. As an ex-pontiac technician of 13 years , pretty much every one of these with more than one light remaining on after start-up is going to need an "exchange" cluster. What the G.M. dealer does is removes the cluster from the car and "swaps" it with another one that has been refurbished-not always do they have a local authorized repair source though. I know the going exchange rate on these units is about $250.00. Hopefully they don't mark it up too much from there. I recommend you have it professionally checked out and diagnosed as you could also have an ABS code which could illuminate the trac off , abs light and check engine light simultaneously. Good luck..............Scott

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light

The problem is probably the wheel hub bearings and it is more that likely the front. I had the same problem a few weeks on my 00 grand am gt. Connected the car to the tester it gave me a code for left front wheel bearing. I replace both wheel bearings because i figured what the hell they both have the same amount of miles on them. Taaadaaa no more lights!!! Hope this solves your problem.
