Question about 1995 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

Can or does the fuel pump need to be primed. the previous owner had major issues after running out of fuel. he changed the fuel pump. he had the tank dropped twice before he had fuel at the filter inlet.I had to drop the tank to correct sending unit issues and after reassembling I have a working fuel guage,an energized fuel pump and no fuel pressure at the fuel filter inlet. The vehicle ran before i dropped the tank.

After replacing a fuel pump or working on a sending unit you will have to prime the fuel pump on efi cars by turning the key on and off about 6 times and letting the pressure build. that is if the fuel pump is working

My 99 Windstar ran out of gas. Changed fuses 5&207; checked fuel injector. Added 2 gallons gas, turned key to "on" 3x's. STILL NOT STARTING!!

although rare it is possible to destroy the fuel pump by running tank to m/t , a quick check to see if this is the case is to sit in car with door open , hold your foot on door jam switch (stops chime) and turn key to run (not start) once or twice in a row , if your pump is still working , you will hear fuel injectors prime , (elect motor runs for three seconds ) you may have to listen carefully and repeat test several times to hear it (quiet place helps !!) if you don't hear the pump prime !! and you ck/replaced the fuel pump fuse already , it will need replaced (its inside fuel tank !!)

I'm not familiar with that particular vehicle, but most diesel systems have a primer under the hood. You will need to pump that slowly until you feel some resistance. That will push fuel to the engine. The other pump may not be able to push fuel through until the system is primed.

If that doesn't get you running I would suspect a clogged fuel filter. Most Dodge vehicles have one on the frame. Just follow the fuel lines until you find it. There may also be one attached to the pump primer.

Changing that filter would my next action. Whether the pump is in the tank or added on outside the tank, you may still need to prime the system after the filter is replaced. Air in the line may cause it to stall, just reprime and start again.

Good luck.

Where is my fuel pump at? on a 1995 chevy camero 3.4 yes ran the car out of gas put so in wont start now what should i do first

Your fuel pump is in the tank. Turn on the ignition, and listen if you can hear the pump run in the tank. It will only run a few seconds if the engine is not running. You can repeat this several times to prime the fuel injection.

Inside the cabin strong gas smell after fill up for approx 50 miles. 2003 Honda Odyssey 85k miles.

do you have the same fuel economy as before or does you gas last less miles than before. if you can smell gas whether the car is running or NOT that means you have a leak in your fuel system if it was not a leak, you would not smell it when not running . first thing is check under vehicle after overnight parking and see if there is fuel on the ground if there is , this will give you a starting point where to look for gas leak. Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector; Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Punctured or damaged fuel tank; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump; Gas in gas can in trunk.

My explorer ran out of gas, i filled it up to about a half a tank, now it just turns over but wont start

if it's fuel injected, look on the fuel rail for a schrader valve--looks just like a valve stem on a tire but shorter.remove cap, again just like on a tire.turn key to on-push valve stem in as if to let air out if you get air, then gasoline, you have just bled the system.replace cap, start car.if you get no gas, remove gas tank cap, turn on key, listen for ""hum'' of fuel tank.no hum, check fuel pump.modern[plastic] fuel pumps will self destruct if run dry, even for a short time.

No start on duramax at time when hot

IF THIS IS AN 2007 YEAR THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD BE IN THE TANK. IF THIS IS A DEISEL THE PUMP COULD BE ON THE FRAME RAIL BUT ONLY HAS ONE PUMP THE PUMP RUNS BOTH TANKS.
CHECK FOR ANY CRACKS IN THE FUEL LINE ALSO. BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FUEL DRAINS BACK INTO THE TANK WHEN IT SETS THIS IS A SIGN THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS NOT HOLDING IT'S PRIME AND THIS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

Running fine then now wont start, fuel pump or will the fuel relay module cause the car to get no gas

More likely the fuel pump.........check for power to the pump on the gray wire at the fuel pump connector at the tank.(wires from the tank)You should see a prime cycle voltage as you turn the key on...if the key has been off 15 seconds. If you see a test light, light.......change the fuel pump.
Tip....a lot of relays are the same in the relay center....switch the fuel pump relay for one of the (same) others to test it if needed.

Before you do this....sit in the car and turn on the key to run.....not start.......do you hear the pump do it's prime cycle?
Total silence means.......in 99% of cases...a new fuel pump is needed.
If you hear it.......no pump should be needed....look elsewhere first.

you may want to check the fuel filter by taking it off and try blowing through it. if you have blowen through a straw and the filter is harder then that replace it. it is running for 10 seconds because its using the fuel in the carb and then it shuts off right. its not to much pressure but could also be a stuck needle valve in the carb. you should make sure you have fuel going to it first. take the line off and stick it in a bucket and turn on the pump you should get fuel coming out thats good. dont need to run it for more then a couple seconds if nothing comes out the filter is clogged the pickup screen is clogged or the line is clogged. good luck hope this helps
