I have a 2004 mazda rx 8. I went out to crank it

I have a 2004 mazda rx 8. I went out to crank it up yesterday day and it would not fire. I had started up on Saturday just fine. What could be the problem?

Does it crank or try to start? Another words does the engine turn over just not start? If it turns over but no start good chance it is flooded a very typical problem on those cars.

Yes... it sounds like it is or was flooded. One of the list of things I do not like about my RX-8. Fun car to drive, but it has so many little goobers like this flooding problem, the car is not practical.

To unflood, google the procedure for unflooding Mazda RX-8. It takes some battery power, but it does work. In a nutshell, you pull the fuel pump fuse, and crank the engine over intermittantly for a number of times with pauses in between.

You cranked the car and moved around driveway to allow another car to get out. Shut it off. Now it sounds like the engine is turning over, but no fire, just spinning..

Do you have a Wankel engine in you car?
Then you have a flooded engine.
Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay and crank the engine over......until it starts then stops.
Now put relay or fuse back and start.
You cannot start and stop a Wankel in a Mazda RX when it is in it's cold mode and restart it easily.
Always run them for at least 10 min before shutting it off.
The other way to start after flooding.....is wait a day.

Check to see if you are getting fuel to the engine. If not replace the pump relay. Then change the pump if still not working.Check for spark at the wires if you have no spark then change the crank sansor. If still no spark then change the coil pack.

2004 mazda rx8 cranks but won't start

Sounds like you flooded it not with water but with fuel due to moving car with out warming it up all the way before shutting it off. You can take it to the dealer and get a flash update to prevent this in the future. To deflood remove spark plugs and let sit with fan on them over night to dry out. Replace and start cranking for 15 seconds at a time till she starts up. GL!

Mazda RX-8 Brakes

This normal for all rx's to do this. It is because of the large pads/disc area. The pads bond to the disc but free once the car is moved.

Mazda 2005 RX-8 wont start... ran yesterday, lights on & sounds

I have a 2004 that had the same problem. It sounds like the engine might be flooded. The best thing to do is to remove the fuse to the fuel pump. It will be listed under the fuse cover under the hood. Mine was a 20 amp but check to be sure. With the fuse removed, crank the engine for a minute to remove any fuel flooding the engine. Replace the fuse and crank the engine in 10 second intervals without touching the gas or you will reflood the engine. This process can sometimes take awhile and will drain your battery, so have it connected to an additional power source ( i.e. another car battery or jump box). When the car finally cranks over there will be a huge cloud of smoke so don't be alarmed when it happens. Lastly some words to the wise. This process CAN ruin your starter, but is essentially the same process that the dealership will you except that they will remove the spark plugs to drain the fuel and then charge you for new ones. If this process doesn't work then you probably need new spark plugs which is going to cost quite a bit. I was quoted upwards of $525 to fix this problem until I talked to a Mazda mechanic and found out how to do this myself. Just make sure that the engine is up to running temperature before turning the car off and you shouldn't encounter this problem again. I hope this helps you, and remember that if all else fails the dealer can fix it. It won't be cheap, but they will get it done.

I almost forgot, you HAVE to get the oil changed as soon as possible because there is probably gas in the oil now.
