E90 6-cylinder VALVETRONIC Engine This is a collection of pictures of the new upcoming 6-cylinder engine for the new E90 3 Series from BMW. It is reported to make approximately 258HP @ 6600rpm and 221lb-ft torque at 2500 rpm, a notable upgrade to keep competitive with other vehicles in this class. If the torque peak is really that low in BMW's notoriously flat powerband, it will be really fun to drive. It utilizes a new magnesium-aluminum alloy crankcase shaving off about 22 pounds. It makes 12% more power and consumes 12% less fuel. It will also be seen in the new 630Ci, X3, X5, Z4, and more. There are numerous other upgrades to this moto thanks ben

BMW E90 LCI, after a long distance trip the engine started making a noise. Had the head fixed, then the car was not picking up RPMs, had the computer box changed to the original, car worked fine

noise could be timing chain tattle due to tensioner failure, fault now sounds like valve timing wrong after changing vanos, there is special tools to set them up, also check the valvetronic servo motor. Scanning for fault codes will also be very useful

Code P0011 Motor surging up and down ... Can you help me?

code p 0011 refers to cam shaft position sensor(CMP), intake /left/front, bank 1 -timing over advance /system performance====causes valve timing, engine mechanical fault , CMP actuator,--- wiring
the variable valve timing is controlled by an electronically controlled hydraulic actuator on the end of the cam shaft
as the rpms increase the ECM alters the electronic control to allow more hydraulic pressure ( oil pressure) into the actuator to advance the valve timing or retard it as required to maintain maximum performance
I would recommend that you seek the services of a service dealer or an accredited repair shop that handles your make of vehicle and have the actuator check ed/ replaced

I have a BMW 318i saloon. I got a P0015 P trouble code. The engine stoped during driving. Could you please let me know where is wrong and how to sort it? Many thanks Ben

Hi, the indication is either your timing belt has skipped a tooth or the valve timing actuator has malfunctioned. The engine valve train will have to be taken apart and diagnosed by a mechanic that is familiar with variable valve timing engines. Please let me know if you have more questions and thanks for using FixYa.

After diagnosis my v8 740i bmw indicated the "variable valve gear guide sensor for bank 2 and variable valve gear learning stops necessary" currently it's difficult accelerating the engine. would...

You have a v8 with a "variable valve gear guide sensor" on each bank. The trouble code is telling you that bank#2 sensor is faulty, or its signal is not getting to the engine computer.

Consequently, when bank#1 adjusts the timing (under hard acceleration or higher revs), bank #2 is not getting adjusted.

If the variable valve timing is not being activated (low load, load revs) the engine will run more or less normally.

Get the car to the dealer. You risk MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE if you keep driving it.

P0010 - "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)

A P0010 code refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module). That consists of an oil control valve (OCV), also called a solenoid valve and other components. Basically the check engine light and associated P0010 trouble code means that the voltage in the circuit has fallen below a set limit for a specific amount of time (varies by make/model/engine).

Symptoms may include:
* Check Engine Light illuminated (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
* Rough running
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0010 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty oil control valve (OCV)
* Open or short in the VVT/VCT circuit
* Open or short in the OCV / solenoid valve
* Damaged computer (PCM)

Possible Solutions: Some recommended troubleshooting and repair steps are:
* Carefully inspect the Bank 1 VVT/VCT system circuit wiring and connectors, repair as required
* With a warm engine, test the operation of the OCV, replace/repair as needed

Hope this helps to solve it (remember to rate this answer).

Diagnoses : 2002 745i bmw ( hot-film air-mass flow senser )

Hot-film air mass sensor when diagnose say is damaged, replace it!!! Trouble when car will take up to 5.sec. is associated with this! Bank 1, the accumulated value of lambdasond the left side of the engine cylinders. While the problem is in the ignition at the 4th cylinder, Bank-1 data were then evaluated as poor. Allow change fourth ignition coil and the CAN mistake Dont look it! is an accidental fault! eventually allow for BMW servicing erase all the mistakes and make a new adaptation of the engine throttle body, and adaptation of the engine in to "0" setting
