Question about 1985 Ford F 250

1 Answer

I just bought a 1985 F250 2x4 6.2Liter. I notice some oil leaking out of the exhaust manifold and see that its burning up oil quickly. Will a new gasket fix this? How reliable is the oil guadge on the dash board?

The guage is pretty reliable.

The leak isnt from your exhaust manifold, its coming from the valve cover gasket above it, and yes a new gasket will fix it if installed properly.

White smoke coming out of exhaust is water vapor. Blue is oil burning and black is carbon from unburned fuel.
U have water or coolant leaking into your combustion cylinders - not a good thing. Probably blown head gasket.

Check your oil - if it like a brown mud then the coolant has also gotten into the lubrication system.

I recently had a 100,000 major service on my 2004 TL. Within a couple days I noticed a pronounced smell of burning oil. I have since noticed a puddle of oil has formed under the car and just today there...

It's probably OK to drive. I imagine they failed to get the oil filter properly seated and you're getting a little leak there. DO BE SURE to check the oil level before you drive it and add if necessary.

NO that Jb weld would fall off in less than a day. It get really hot and your best bet is to go to autozone and ask if they have a kit to replace holes on manifolds.

Burnt Oil Smell

Check carefully around the valve covers, this is the area that leaks most frequently occur, and being located next to the exhaust manifold can easily cause the burning smell. There is a very easy to replace gasket under the cover. Other possibilities, shop or you when changed or added oil spilled a bit and that has worked down to the exhaust manifold and is causing the burnt oil smell. Last possibility is that you do have a slow leak on the underside of the engine that is blowing back onto the exhaust system causing the smell.

I noticed my subaru leeking oil, i checked the oil level and was fine and eveytime i drive fast there is a small bit of smoke and burning smell from the engine can anybody help???

Hi, you may have a valve cover gasket leak that is dripping on the exhaust manifold. I would inspect the valve cover area for oil spots and rim leaks. The smoke is coming from the dripping of the oil on the manifold or, lower exhaust pipe.

Please rate and god bless:)

Oil leaking out from hood

The people who worked on my car in January left the cap off.....luckily I called Triple A and they found it...there was no more oil and it is lucky I stopped driving the car, as it could have been disastrous.....bought a new cap and 4 qts of oil and all is well.
