Hi,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Why would an 2005 Town and country van with a 3.8 engine start and sound/run good for a couple of seconds and then starts missing real bad.

Crankshaft position sensor maybe , throttle position sensor , coolant temp. sensor etc.... It could be a lot of thing's . Instead of buying this part an that part ,take it an have it diagnosed . To a good ASE certified repair shop . Unless you like buying unneeded parts .

Bad miss

take a regular screwdriver and tap the mass airflow sensor with its handle and see if the engine reacts. if it does, the sensor is bad.
if there is no reaction, unplug the sensor and see if the roughness improves; if it does, the sensor is bad.
if neither of these things make a difference, then you have to see if any injectors are leaking (into the engine)

MISSING BADLY, CHANGED SPIDER, STILL MISSING BADLY?

Pull the distributor and check the gear on the bottom of it. If it is worn replace the gear. I have replaced a lot of these.

I have a 1999 vw passat, my problem is when i change from second to third gear and accelerate on the gas pedal the engine starts to hesitate and pull like its missing.

This is when an engine typically misses, there is allot fo load on it, have the spark plug wires checked for any burn marks where they go over the spark plug.
