Question about 1993 Buick LeSabre

Open Question

1993 Buick Lesabre. Car dropped dead while driving. Something caused fuel pump fuse to blow. Traced short to coil pack assembly. Changed module assembly and coils. Fuse no longer blows out but..sometimes there is spark on lower two coils and car tries to start. No spark from top coil, and it gets hot. Have studies schematics. Have checked wires in harness from 8 point connection on manifold, to crank sensor and to cam sensor and 14 terminal coil pack assembly plug, Continuity exists on all similar colored wires and none go to ground. I am thinking there may be a problem further back in the body harness. Car was in an accident last year. Drivers side wires for headlights and side lights were the only damaged wires I could find. Damage limited to drivers side of car. Have swapped cam sensor with one from running car, and it has a new crank sensor. Usually, people come to me for help, but this is making me nuts. Is there a surprise quirk for this model???

SOURCE: buick lesabre nightmare

Need to get a scan tool and look at the data stream while it is running for alot more info. Also any trouble codes.Sounds like initially, the engine isn't getting any fuel.I would have a pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail on the engine,so i could monitor the fuel pressure while all this is going on.Items to look at on the data stream would be timing, what timing is the PCM commanding for the engine. Also, have you checked for continuos power feed to the coils during this no start condition, and fire at the plugs while cranking. You could possibly still have spark, but maybe it is extremely weak?I have seen bad ignition switches cause weird problems before too. Many things power up through the ignition switch, just a thought.Have also seen bad PCM's cause strange problems..38 volts is a little on the low side for GM.Usually see those at,at least .50 and up,and rise steadily while pressing the throttle,up to just under 5.0 volts.Potentiometer with 5 volt supply.Vacuum leak can be checked with engine running at a steady idle speed, spray brake cleaner all around the intake manifold and listen for engine speed change.

SOURCE: why is there No Spark in a 1991 Buick Lesabre

ECM would be the next part. Check the number on it . If it has the number 1228253 replace it anyway because they give a cutting off problem. Clean battery cables all three and replace bolts too.

SOURCE: 1997 LeSabre has engine "knock"

If it knocks at 50 it will knock sitting still if you race it up. Is the oil pressure good? These motors hardly ever have a bearing problem. The only knock problem was the harmonic balacer that comes apart and knocks. The rubber falls apart and it will make a knock sound all the time, more with the ac on. If you have a knock at 50 or highway speed only you may need a outer tie rod end only. Get the front end checked as they will make a knocking sound on the highway. reply

2004 ford explorer when you turn the switch on the fuel pump fuse blows . i un pluged fuel pump it still blows . i went and un pluged fuel control module and it doest blow

Unplugging the fuel control relay or module will ensure no current is entering the wire heading towards the fuel pump. The likelihood is there is a short circuit somewhere along that part of the circuit though it is possible the relay could be faulty.

Ideally, with the aid of a circuit diagram, the wire should be traced from the source at the fuel pump module along its length until the fault is discovered. There is intelligent equipment available that can locate short circuits.

1993 Buick Roadmaster keeps on blowing fuel pump/ecm in-line 20 amp fuse. Car stalled out in a parking lot, would not start, no fuel. Changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay. Found fuel pump/ecm...

Sorry to say it could also be a faulty ECM. The ecm uses circuit boards to provide grounds to a bunch of components and can short out internally.
Most of those components can fail and cause the same problem by causing a short "thru" the ECM. Things like injectors, O2 sensors, and so on.
I doubt you will find the problem without a book and some test equipment.

One more step was needed a failing crank sensor will do just that(shuts off while driving) The crank sensor informs the ECM that the engine is running if the ECM doesnt see this signal the vehicle shuts off cansmo_223.gif

My 1995 Buick LeSabre Custom is consistently stalling. Itll run for ramdom moments of time, be it 1 min, 5, or 15 seconds. Itll start up most of the time but stalls shortly after. I changed the fuel filter...

first, check the fuse to the cigarette lighter, the OBD2 connector gets power fromthat circuit. next, most common failure for your problem is a bad crankshaft sensor or the ignition module located under the coil packs. the crank sensor is located behind the balancer on the lower part of engine.if possible you need to check for signal form the sensor to the ignition module.

Are you getting gas and spark to the cylinders?

If you add gas to the throttle body, does it start?
If so, then you have a fuel pump delivery problem in this vehicle.

If it doesn't start, then you may have a spark problem at the spark plugs due to a coil pack going bad or a module (but you said you changed the module).

Also, is this a 1995 Buick LeSabre of a 1993 Buick Skylark (which it is listed under)? What engine size is this?

Best to do a fuel pressure test, pump might be weak and dosent show up until it gets gets warm. Best to do the test after it quits again when pump is at its hottest. If you havent done it yet chg. fuel filter too.
