I have a 1999 Tahoe 4x4. The oil pressure is

I have a 1999 Tahoe 4x4. The oil pressure is normal. I believe it has a lifter problem but am not sure. I recently put gunk out in the crankcase and let it run for 30 minutes and then changed the oil and filter and put in syntheic oil. Still have the problem where it makes noise and goes away after 5 to 10 minutes. Got a lot of sludge out of it when I changed the oil and filter. Any other suggestions?

FIRST, HOW DOES THE ENGINE RUN? hOW MANY MILES ON THE ENGINE. I did the same thing back in the 70's and ended up ppulling the pan because the pick up screen got clogged up with all kinds of sludge the cleaner had worked loose. At this point, Put a quart of trans fluid in the engine. It will clean and lubricate while thinning the motor oil. Run the engine for awhile 15-30 minuts and drain it all out again. Refill with 10w 30 motor oil and change oil filter. If this doesn't get the lifter pumped up, I would venture to say you have a flat cam lobe to deal with.or a collapsed lifter.- Pull the valve cover off on the side in question an you can tell which lift it is. Start the motor and look for a short stroking push rod and a rocker arm barely moving opposed to the others. Good Luck.

If your saying you suspect sludge then you may have an oil passage clogged. Trying to use cleaners can actually worsen the condition if the passage was partially clogged and you broke a piece of the sludge off. Not serviceing the oil enough is the cause of the sludge if its got to that point.

I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe .A light keeps coming on that says oil pressure is low. Stop the car. I took it to a local shop that checked the pressure and they said it was fine, but the instrument clust

The guage could be bad and losing connection triggering the message. My dads Tahoe reads low oil pressure but the sensor connection or stepper motor that moves the guage could and have had a history of being faulty.

What order used to adjust valves 99 5.7

Better check oil pressure 1st to make sure hydraulic lifters have oil pressure to them. Or 1 or a few could be stuck.

Lifter noise on a 4.8 liter chevy motor. do i need to pull the heads to replace lifters?

You usually don't need to pull the heads. I'm not exactly familiar with that engine but 50% of the time you can get a magnet and pull them out through the valve covers. But to make sure it's the lifters. Let it run until it's warm and remove the valve covers. You at that point should push with your finger on the push rod side of the tappet. If one of them ticks (you will be amazed you just did it with your finger) thats the bad one. However the whole cause of the problem with hydraulic lifter is oil pressure. The 0-ring seal between the oil pump screen and the oil pump may be cut, causing aeration of the oil. Thus lowering oil pressure causing the tick. It is normal for some LIGHT ticking to occur in the 4.8L and some noticeably louder ticking on startup. Good luck!

98 TAHOE VORTEC 350 JUST REBUILT REPLACED EVERYTHING BUT CAM AND LIFTERS NOW IT HAS A LOUD LIFTER TAP AFTER IT WARMS UP.I WAS TOLD BY THE MACHINE SHOP THAT THESE ROLLER CAMS AND LIFTERS DONT WEAR OUT .I...

As far as I know all hydraulic lifters can go bad, collapes or stick. And yours are definately hydraulic lifters, rollered yes, which will make them more durable, but they can go bad. The machine shop should have down a leak-down test on the lifters. That is the only way to determine if the lifters are good. I would check that you have proper oil pressure, I'm sure you do. I bought a "rebuilt head" for a Saturn DOHC engine, and the machine shop never did a leak down test on the lifters, and I had the samething happening.

I have 1997 chevy Z-71 sometimes on startup the engine makes a knocking sound for about 3 seconds and goes away. I dont know if I have a major problem or not can you help?

I think it is normal for these vehicles. My '97 Tahoe did it also and I'd heard it was normal and not to be worried about. Kind of sucks but I had 150,000 miles on mine and it was fine.

Good luck.

Lifter ticking when I start my 1999 Chevy Tahoe

Your lifters have become clogged over the years. Its only after the oil warms up and thins out does it allow oil to "pump up" the lifters. That's why it goes quiet after 5 min. There are several different brands of additives on the market that can fix this problem ,unless you have a more serious mechanical problem, which I doubt.Check your local auto parts store for the additive. Just add it to your oil and "wham!" problem solved. Good Luck!

I have a 95(ChVy)TaHoe but clacks real loud due to no oil Help!

It sounds like your lifters are stuck. Put a can of seafoam or trans fluid in the oil drive it 50 miles or so and change the oil. Use a good oil and see if this helps. If it works it don't hurt to do this everytime before an oil change. This keeps your engine very clean

I believe in 97 they started the vortec 350 and they ran until 2001 not real sure but any salvage yard will know what years will fit. there are also different engine codes I think they are W and Z that will make alot of difference in the computer.
