The axles are held into the trans with internal "SIR" clips, they just pull out, you need to pull straight out in a quick snapping motion, they can be very difficult to remove

98 Pontiac Grand Prix load front end roaring?

Defective fan clutch, if it has one. With a cold engine only, try spinning the fan blade by hand. If it does not turn freely, the fan clutch is defective. Warning: When the engine is hot, the fan can turn on by itself with the car not running and keys are NOT in the ignition.

My 2003 Vibe GT. 93k miles has a slipping clutch. Is there anything I could check before I replace the clutch?

If it is out of warranty I would check around to various repair shops for prices to replace it and avoid the dealer. It is coming onto a 100k, good life for a clutch, and this is a procedure which you should do completely, surface the flywheel and replace all three clutch components. I would replace the clutch master and slave cylinders at the same time so you do not have to have it done next year.

Can a clutch in a 2002 eclipse be replaced without removing the motor

Yes, it can; you just have to remove the transmission and front suspension instead. The front suspension so you can get the axles out of the transmission and so it has a place to come out. Usually, you can slide the transmission out of one of the wheel wells to work on it.

Trans axle and transmission are the same in a front wheel drive car. After 25 oil changes, the trans fluid probably should be replaced anyway, if never done yet. Pontiac/Toyota do recommend synthetic trans fluid, which is quite pricey per quart from the dealer. If you did drain the trans fluid, and didn't replace it, chances are you wouldn't be driving right now. I do wonder how oil change #26 went wrong? Not criticizing, just wondering. Hope this helps.
