How to locate starter motor in mazda 323F

The starter motor is located on the back side of the engine (closest to the firewall) underneath the fuel injection/intake manifold. To replace it, first disconnect the battery, then remove the main power cable (heavy wire) and the start wire (light wire). Next remove the two bolts for the intake manifold support bracket and remove bracket. Remove one bolt on starter rear support bracket and 3 bellhousing flange bolts (two accessible from starter side, on accessible from bellhousing side). the starter is now free and can be taken out form teh passenger's side (LHD).

Don't bother repairing it...I would call up a local wrecker and get a swap over...shouldn't cost you more than $30 - $50

3 bolts the one you can't see is in back of the starter solenoid. Bolt's are almost at a triangle pattern.

Replacing the starter motor in a 1996 miata

Hi,

Depending on the version/edition of the MX-5, the starter motor would be on the rear end of the engine (passenger side) below the intake manifold. Initially, disconnect the battery/cable; next disconnect the start wire. Thereafter, remove the two (2) bolts for the intake manifold support bracket and remove the bracket. Remove one bolt on starter rear support bracket and the three (3) bellhousing flange bolts (two accessible from starter side while the other one is accessible from the bellhousing side). The starter is now free and may be taken out.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
