Try jumping the relay terminals for the rad fans. if they turn on then its a bad relay. Start with that anyways.

if your rad coolant fan is not working check the fan itself as this is a common problem on these cars. disconnect the plug from the fan motor and run jumper wires directly from battery to the fan motor terminals. if the fan doesn`t run replace fan motor. if it does run the check fuses then fan relay. the relay is in the relay box, the coolant sensor for the fan motor is in the head that goes into a coolant passage that has a 2 wire connector.

The fuses are located in the fuse box under the hood, but could be the fan motor too, check if you have power at the motor

1996 chev, caprice 5.7L eng. coolant problem.over heating have checked ECT unpluged key on -40 deg. with jumper +300 Deg. Have 4.99 volt at elect connector


With the switch on take coolant temp sensor connector off and take a wire and jump the 2 prongs on the inside of the connector and if the fan comes on then replace the coolant temp sensor.

PO480 code on my DTC Cooling Fan 1 Control


Hi.

DTC P0480 is normally given by radiator fan relay. Replace the fan relay located near to the radiator. There is also a service bulletin about the error being prompted in snow condition. The bulletin advice to re-program the ECU.Here the bulletin.

Hi, here is how your system works. The coolant temp sensor get's a reference voltage from the PCM and returns a voltage corresponding to the temp. The PCM then turns on the fan relay onve the temp reaches a certain level. If your coolant sensor is working properly (moving into red or light coming on), then the problem is with the relay, fuse, or the fan itself. Otherwise, it is the sensor.
If the sensor reading is bad, first check the connection to the sensor. If the connection is good, remove the connector and use an ohmmeter to check the resistance of the sensor. It should be as specified below. If not, replace the sensor.
If the sensor indications are good, try swapping the fan relay with another similar relay. The fan realy is usually in a box under the hood--sometimes on the passenger side in front of the shock tower. Finally, if both the relay and sensor are good, use a 12 volt test light or voltmeter to check for power to the fan connector when the engine is running and hot. If there is no power, check the wiring from the fan relay. If there is power, replace the fan motor.

I HAVE 1995 CHEVY CAPRICE CLASSIC AND IT KEEPS OVERHEATING. I CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT. THE MAIN PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS THAT THE COOLANT FANS AREN'T WORKING. I REPLACE THE RELAYS AND TESTED THE WIRING...


Check for power and ground directly at the cooling fan connector (the red and black wires). You can either jumper across the relay or with the key on, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor (2 wire connector near the thermostat housing, usually yellow and black). This should override the computer and energize the fans. If you have good power and ground at the fan connector, then the fan motor is no good. If you don't have power and ground there, it's a wiring issue from the relay, the relay itself, or no power to the cooling fan circuit (fuse).

I have a 1999 chevy cavalier and the cooling fan will not start


CHECK COOLING FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF BOTH GOOD SCAN CAR TO CHECK COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULT CODE.THE PCM AND COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR IS WHAT CAUSE FAN TO RUN AT CERTAIN TEMPERATURE.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOT WIRE COOLING FAN USING JUMPER WIRES TO BATTERY.IF FAN DONT RUN REPLACE FAN MOTOR.IF FAN RUNS YOU HAVE SHORT OR BROKE WIRE IN THE COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.

Trying to find coolant fan fuse for 1996 jeep cherokee sport


cooling fan fuse should be third up from bottom on right on cabin fuse block. there may be another in power distribution center under the hood. Not sure if you mean radiator fan. to check, first hot-wire fan to battery. if it runs check fuse and relay. Radiator fan operates like this: coolant sensor sends signal to computer that sends ground signal to fan relay that then completes power circuit to fan. Difference in cabin fan is that the dash control sends signal to relay, then to resistor bloc, to fan motor.All electrical components require power and a good ground to operate properly.

I replaced my radiator cooling fan motors both of them on my Dodge Grand Caravan and i replaced the relay and fuse and coolant temparature sensor and my fans still won't work.


check for battery power at pin 4 of rad fan relay connector..ground at pin 1..jump pins 3 and 4..fans should work..if not,check harness about 3-4 inches away from relay connector..have seen these corrode..if fans work,the engine controller may not be grounding relay..any codes in engine controller?engine light on?
