Question about 2009 Pontiac Torrent

1 Answer

When using the remote start, my car will only run for about 5 minutes, and then shuts off. Is it supposed to be this way? Can it be overridden? Kind of seems like a pointless accessory if I can't start my car on cold days and let it warm up before leaving the house.

On the first start up, the engine should run 10 minutes. By pressing the lock button and then the start button the time can be extended up to 20 minutes.

You should be under warranty, so if there is a problem bring it in for service. There may be a program update for the system or maybe it wasn't set up correctly to begin with.

The fan relay could be defective, especially if the fan continues to run after shutdown and drains the battery.

sounds like your factory alarm is not working with the remote starter. it happens a lot with the new cars. check the BCM that runs the factory alarm.

You probably need to disarm the system, try locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key if you don't have the remote.

I would contact a Chrysler dealer and speak to a tech, they will answer for free. They would know best what may be going on.Sounds kind of like it needs a reset. That's all I got. When in doubt, contact a dealer. If they want money, call around is some basic advice I use for not too many problems but this one qualifies.Good luck! My 2002 sonata alarm wont shut off and my keyless wont stop it and the car also wont start with the key either

When the alarm is activated, there is an Anti-Theft device (Starter Kill Relay) which prevents anyone from starting the engine using the key (about 5 minutes). If you place the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "RUN" position, wait 5 minutes (approx), the engine should then be able to start. If not, the problem may be the ETACS (Electronic Time & Alarm Control System) module. If it does start, the problem may simply be that the battery in the keyless remote is weak/dead, or the remote needs to be programmed again for that vehicle. Only the remote can 'DEACTIVATE' the alarm. Best solution, take/tow the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

Starts and runs 3-5 seconds and shuts down

Sounds like your security system is shutting the car down. You should be able to leave the key on for 15 minutes and it will reset itself. Make sure you are using factory keys, and they are in good condition.

Reprogramming the factory remote starter on a 2008 Chevy Siverado

No, its a Auto-Anti-Theft Unit, your best bet would be to buy a $100 kit from auto zone. The Stick unit is built that way because if you start it and walk away, I can use a blank key to unlock the ignition and drive off.
