You have a 4L60Eautomatic transmission or a 4L65E.Call the dealership and give them your vehicle identification number and they will tell you what transmission you have.Talk to the parts department.

Your transmission on your Suburban is a 4L60E, just make sure it's a 4L60E for the years of 1998 to present. 1997 was the change year and the transmission was sectioned in to a three piece housing where the older 4L60E was a one piece housing and the older housing had a 4 bolt end on the tail housing as to the newer ones have a 5 bolt, the internals are the same through out the years. Good luck and hope this helps.

My 1997 Chevy suburban 1500 leaks transmission fluid from the top when started but I cant find the leak whats the best way to check it

It should go without saying that your question cannot be answered without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.

That being said, you will need to put your truck up on a hoist and determine where the leak is coming from. No magic bullet available, sorry.

Will a transmission from a1998 Chevy Suburban 4x4 fit a 1997 Chevy 4x4 1500?

Check the trans serial/ model numbers to get better info. The only changes could be the gearing ratio's for different models. Go online to one of the bigger 4X4 owners forums and see if its answered there.

A salvage yard should have the interchange books to tell you for sure. You'll need the model of each one, like 4L80 or 4L60.

Flywheel on 1997 Chevy Suburban 1500 broken

I would say about $200-400. It involves disconnecting the transmission and torque converter bolts to the flywheel (3 bolts) and moving the transmission back far enough to remove the flywheel.
