If this is an automatic gearbox, it probably needs an overhaul in which they replace all the hydraulic fluid seals. The seals go hard after about 10 years and start to leak, so that the hydraulic actuators which change gear either don't work at all or are delayed. I had a Ford auto gearbox which, after 10 years and 120,000 miles, would only go into drive when stone cold. A re-seal job fixed this perfectly

Why my have ford F 150 4.2L HAVE LOSS reverse drive lately. my automatic transmission 4R70W. I've tried the ff: adjust linkage under the driver side but no fix; i've cleaned transmission oil filter and...

there is a reverse solenoid separate to the others. you may get a serious problem by the use of diesel as that fuel is still in the converter and will affect the transmission oil especially when the oil is the fault codes to find what is wrong.

Why will my 1995 lexus ls400 not shift into park or reverse from drive/neutral?

Could be computer related, many times its the transmission gunked up with sludge. Transmedic is a fix that takes a few days to actually work but only last a few months if thats the issue. Most honest shops will take out the trans and open and clean it out, Many just want to rebuild it, needed or not to make money. You can also check the linkage that goes from the shift to the transmission. many times it can loosen, especially if you like to shift manually or hard.
Hope this helps, Have a great day and God Bless :O)

What is wrong with your transmission when it is completely gone. (No reverse, drive, second, etc., nothing) Was driving down the highway and the truck suddenly seemed to be in neutral.

first thing i would do is put it on a lift and have someone move the shifter while i watched the linkage
on the transmission. if the linkage is broken it will be obvious and you can fix it. if the linkage is fine then i would check my drivetrain warranty, possibly 10yrs/100kmiles, if not in warranty then take it to a transmission shop.

I have a 1994 cadillac deville just had power steering line replace and now my car will not change gear for me what do i need to to or replace now

shift solinoids. but first check the transmission fluid. also this has the 4.9l right? auto zone sells shift solinoids for $30 each . if it is 4.9l it has the 4t60e transmission. i think thees shift solinoids are in the side transmission cover. when u replace the solinoids use a multimeter to check the wiring harness. disconnect the wiring harness located on top of tranny. unplugg shift solnoids and conncet multimeter to connector terminals put meeter on continuity it should not beep . if it does internal wiring harness is bad.( BEFOR DOING ABOVE : CHECK PCM CODES. ON INSTRAMENT CLUSTER HOLD WARMER BUTON AND OFF BUTTON DOWN FOR A FEW SECONDS AT THE SAME TIME A SERISE OF CODES SHOULD DISPLAY WRIGHT THEM DOWN AND EMAIL ME AT BRANDONDAY87@YAHOO.COM. FOR FURTHER ASISTANCE.

transmission is not shifting back to the low position
if you can shift frim first to second and it is fine then the trans is not shifting back to low there is a solinoid in most newer models and if they fail thats what will happen

2000 ford explorer rolls while in park

park on level ground engage emergeny brake and chock wheels
locate transmission cable at trans linkage on side of trans. loosen the
cable clamp push cable+linkage arm all the way into the park posistion
tighten the cable clamp it also helps to have an extra pair of hands up
top to move shift lever so you can inspect it from below also make
sure linkage arm is not slipping on the shaft that go's into the trans.
if you have to jack it up for extra room please use a JACK STAND.
if you need help locating any of the parts mentioned stop by any
auto parts store and pu a haynes repair manual for your trk. it will
give the step by steps and diagrams for this job + many that may
come up in the future.
hope this helps any other ? gimme a shout good luck

1993 Nissan Altima Gearshifter or Transmission problem

Sounds like a neutral safety switch in problem #1 and a sticky or faulty solinoid in problem #2
The tranny has quite a few solinoids that are electronic which sometimes burn out or fail with high mileage.
Hope this helps

Transmission has to be manually down shifted at stops

I have a similar issue with my vehicle. I either have to shift to neutral or it stalls. The advice I received was to unplug the 4 prong connector at the front of the transmission. What truly is the problem, as I was told, it the overdrive lockup solinoid inside the trans cover. I looked at replacing it and it looks like a tough job to do, lots of brackets to remove to remove the cover. Looks like the solinoid is on top of the trans, but getting to it is another story. Good luck.
