On my jcb teletruck the foot brake sticks on untill I rev it quite high Then it shoots off in forwards or reverse .It then works fine untill I apply the footbrake again

sounds like the clevis gear/ pawl is maladjusted, look underneath where the pedal goes through the floor and see if you can find/ adjust the pawl tension

also, could you be accidentally be "setting" the parking brake?

When I shift car into reverse or drive it will not move

When you're ready to pull off, be sure the emergency brake is off. Be sure the transmission fluid level is in the OK range to drive.. If neither of these suggestions works for your situation, give sequential information... pick a quiet time to set the parking brake, crank the car, put your foot on the brake pedal, shift into reverse careful to listen for what you can hear and also what you feel. foot still on brake pedal shift to drive. again what do you hear and or feel?

Engine revs but no acceleration

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. Or one of the CV joints is detached from the gear box. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

What is a neutral safety switch?

The Neutral Safety switch monitors the position of your gear selector lever and either interrupts or allows the starting circuit in your car or truck to do its job. On newer vehicles it may also monitor the position of the brake pedal to make sure that the vehicle is in park or neutral AND that your foot is on the brake.

If your vehicle is equipped with a neutral safety switch, it should NOT start UNLESS the transmission is in Neutral or Park. On the other hand your vehicle SHOULD start when it is in Neutral or Park. If your car will start in Neutral but not in Park, you have a bad switch. Also, if your car or truck will only start by turning the key to the start position and wiggling the gear selector lever, your neutral safty switch is in need of replacement.

The nuetral safety switch is usually found near the gear shifter. If your car has the gear shift on the column, then the neutral safety switch is usully mounted on the steering column near the brake pedal. On floor mount or console mount vehicles you will find the nuetral safety switch mounted near or on the shifter mechanism.

2005 dodge neon - revs high in park nuetral and tough to push break pedal down. mechanic doesn't know what it is. Anyone have this problem resolved before? Thanks

sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak. When you lose vacuum the brake booster doesn't operate right. You need to go too a different mechanic. Could be the idle selonoid staying open or even a bad brake booster or vacuum hose came off.

I have a 2004 Honda Accord and I cant move the shifter from parking to drive unless I use the button on hte console?

the nuetral safety switch is bad on the car this will not let you shift the car into gear if it does not register that the car is in park and your foot is on the brake pedal, try pulling the emergency brake on and see if it lets you.

High pitched electronic/dentist drill sound when accelerating.

Probably the front differential, your probably hearing the famous differential gear whine. Change the oil, put Lucas for gears in it. You can get a hand operated oil pump to **** it out through the dip stick if it has one. Then fill it with the recommended amount.

Gear shift is stuck in park I have a similar problem. I have a 2004 dodge durango. It will start up fine, but it won't shift into reverse or drive. It usually takes up to 15 minutes sometimes to get it...

there is a release on the brake pedal that lets the transmission shift out of park you should hear it click when you put your foot on the brake
