You'll need to have the car scanned and get the OBD II P Code. Most auto parts store will do it for free. That will tell you why the light is on.

yes we had the car scanned ($67.00$) and were given the poo11 code.

Apparently something to do with a Variable Valve Timing System

Are you familiar with this System

Yes ... On the front of the engine, under the engine cover ... right front corner is a black cylinder coming out of the head. Make sure the connector is seated. Has the oil levels and condition been maintained? If that's not the problem it could be a camshaft position sensor. And your $67 scan was a rip-off. Any auto parts store would have done it for free. If a mechanic charged you that much, find another one. Same if it was a dealer ...

You can do a quick check of the actuator .... turn engine off, unplug it as mentioned above and start it up ... no change then its a bad one. Take it to a dealer to get it changed.

Auto parts stores in Ca. cant do a "free scan" anymore its illegal, and its 1 hour of labor for a diagnostic from any shop, also, the CPS has its own code, its P0340-345. Generally speaking if you're getting p0011 its a wiring issue, or even a timing belt/timing belt tensioner going bad.

We had a 2002 Kia Sportage that the check engine light was constantly coming on. the technician told us there was about 120 things that will turn on the check engine light. we got rid of the car because it spent more time in the shop than on the road

Engine Light went on. What could be the causes? 2003 Kia Spectra.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light is turned on, the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls and monitors of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

Check engine light comes on (Oxygen Sensor "Pending"), go's on and off. ???? 06 Kia Spectra 5-speed

I have a 2006 Kia Spectra hatchback 4D. It was a show room car and I'm leasing it since March 2009. The engine light comes on and off intermentaly. I took it in the Kia dealership in Calgary AB many twice and first time they said it was a part they needed flown in. Same issue after the part was tested, now they say they need to look at the wiring so they need take the engine out. I had it hooked up at Jiffy Lube free of charge and they said it was O2 sensory issue, take it to a mechanic and get it fixed there. Jiffy people said that dealerships dont care about the maintenance aspect of cars. They recommended me to take it to mechanics. Shouldn't the KIA people have picked up on the O2 sensor since its a computer diagnostic reading ?

Where are the 02 sensors located on a 23005 Kia

They are located on the exhaust system, most cars have atleast 2, the first is the before the cat converter or also known as the up steam o2, The second being the down stream o2 which is located behind the cat converter.

They almost look like a spark plug sticking out of the exhaust pipe with a few wires coming out the top of it.

o2 Sensors can be very costley I would suggest having your local auto parts store such as Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts resetting your engine light, They will do it for free, also if you use some high test gas for your emissions inspection as well as make sure the car is run for a little bit before going to have the test you will find by doing this it will drop all your numbers needed to pass the test.

It is a very good chance that once the light is reset it won't come back on.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.
