Could be the ignition switch itself. The car may also not be fully engaged in park which would cause this issue.

Replaced battery cables on my 1998 Ford Expedition. Now when I turn the ignition the starter enguages then emediatly disenguages, like there is a load on it other than turning over the motor. Was star

You said you replaced the battery cables, how come? Problems getting car started? might be a bad starter, not cables... if battery is good, cables are new, may be starter solenoid malfunction... the solenoid tells the starter gear to engage the flywheel, then release the flywheel once the engine rotates fast enough (assuming you let go of the key once engine gets going :)... or you could even have a worn ignition switch or faulty wire behind the switch (not so likely)

ok well this is where you might be incorrect... either you have a 12 volt wire bleeding scross or you have a bad ignition switch. the run wire off the ignition switch is the only thing that will keep it running unless you have a remote start then of course that could keep the engine running. you might want to start by making sure the ignition switch is beaking the signal to the PCM.

Key is locked in ignition

Make sure the vehical is in park. If it is not, the key will not release. If you did not turn the key down far enough, or turned it too far, the key is in auxillery and needs to be switched to the off position.

Key stuck in the ingition , will only turn back as far as ACC. had to stall the car to shut it off and then disconnect the battery to keep it from draining dead.now how can i get the key out ?

I had a similar problem--I'd try to turn off the car & pull out the key & it would get stuck, like it was locked in. The problem that caused this for me was that I had not put the car fully in park--I had to shift out of park & re-shift to get it to stay in park. Once it was fully in park, the key would unlock. Hope this helps!

Try wiggling the gearshift lever when you put it in park. I have a Chevette that does the same thing. If that doesn't work, I would check the actual ignition switch that is down on the steering column under the dash. It could either be worn or out of adjustment. Any questions I'll be glad to help.

After starting sub. can not turn key to off position. Will not shut down. Had to pull ign. fuse and disconnect battery. whats up

Either gear selector is not in park, or the gear lever itself is loose or out of alignment, and the park sensor is not working. If transmission lever is not in park, you cant pull the key out. On most cars, the key will return as far as the I position, shutting off the engine, but not allowing key extraction.

97 Celica - Key stuck in accesory position

while in park, press shifter firmly even farther above park. Hold shifter and turn key.
The linkage may need adjusting. If this does not help the situation, then the pins inside the ignition are not getting pressed down because key is getting worn. You can try to tap around the ignition lightly with hammer to shake the pins loose.
