Question about 1984 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

200 amps are hooked to battery turminals to jump start it and it won't turn over? The starter will turn slowly, then stop. Acting like it's not getting enough voltage. 1984 Buick LeSabre Custom, 307 V8.

Well now,,, 200 amps,, sounds like a realy big kick dont it? trust me,,,thats nothing more that a cheep torch battery,,,you will need at least 400 cranking amps just to make that starter grunt over,, fuw things to look for,,, 1,,is the engine sezed,,,2 is the starter motor a good one? as it sounds like it has a short in its feild windings 3 or warn out brushes 4,,or burnt out solenoid cap,, 5,,or even a realy bad engine earth, 6,,,bad battery clamps 7 even dry bushes in the starter,,,, to be honest,,,i would wip off the starter first and strip it down or fit a different one on just to try it out,, i bet its the satrter letting you down though

try tapping the starter lightly with a small hammer to rule out a stuck armature. Also make sure all of your connections are tight.
Please explain how you "jumped" it. was it with another battery?

2007 Dodge Caravan won't start.Batt. is good, all lights work, Turn key, solenoid clicks and stops, all gauge needles slowly move to max., and return to min. No codes displayed.

When you try to start it do the lights dim way low, have you been able to start it with a jump from another vehicle, unfortunately, chances are the starter needs to be replaced. How many miles does it have?

I went to start my 2005 PT Cruiser and got a loud clicking sound and it won't turn over. Is it the starter?

probably not sounds like either a dead or weak battery or bad connections on the battery posts. first take battery cables loose clean terminals and hook back up hopefully then it will start. or use jumper cables and see if it will jump start. if it jump starts then you no its not starter.if it doesnt jump stsrt then clean posts and cable ends and try again. hope this helps. best of luck

Replacing a starter

Disconnect the battery and disconnect the wires to the starter. Remember where they go. There is two bolts held in through the transmition and thats it.Put the starter back in, hook the wires up before connecting the battery. When you have all wires connected to the starter attach battery turminals.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start.

You need a new battery. The lights only take about 10 - 15 amps, the starter takes 200 - 400 amps, Replace the battery and all will be well
