It is on the top of intake manifold connected to throttle control unit. It is next to the throttle position sensor. Close to the area where the throttle cables attach to.

You can go to autozone.ocm and register for full free online repair manual with all the info you could need for your jeep

you need to check all sensor connections as the crank shaft sensor also will mess up your idle....try slightly unscrewing the tps and push it up or down slightly to see if this fixes the problem.

I'm assuming you mean a coolant temp sensor. The sensor tells the computer what the coolant temp is.
Normally when a sensor fails the check engine light comes on to warn the driver. Normally but not always.
One thing that could affect both problems you describe is the idle air control valve. If the valve fails or sticks, the engine can stall or have a high idle speed. The computer controls idle speed by how much air is allowed into the throttle body.
The throttle body could also be very dirty.

How to adjust idle of 1998 jeep grand cherokee

there is no way to adjust the idle on a computer controlled car. If your having an idle issue most likely the injectors are clogged or the Idle air control valve is bad. Try cleaning the throttle body around the throttle plate. If this doesnt help and you have no codes present I would get a data scanner to make sure the throttle position sensor is giving the correct data or test it with a meter. At idle it should be about 1 volt on the center wire. Some are adjustable. If all this checks out then replace the IAC

98 JEEP CHEROKEE CODE P0505

That error code is idle control system malfunction.  You need to replace your idle air controller (IAC). IAC basically opens and closes the throttle at idle so it stays at constants RPM.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

Car won't stay started

if the battery is old or no good the idle air control will search for the proper idle so either a bad battery or idle air control solenoid .
