On the side of the block, transmission side, but make sure that the fan is able to work...just unplug the connector and with the key in on position, use a small jumper wire and jump the connector that you have unplugged and if the sensor is the problem, the fan will start running at this point. If it doesn't want to run, you will need to unplug the fan and ground the side that is for ground, where the black wire comes into the connector, then use a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery and jump the other side of the connector to the fan...make sure you don't touch the + - side together while doing this since it is hard on the PCM, but if the fan doesn't start when jumping, replace the fan.

2001 Saturn sl fan not working wiring not relaying voltage. Temp sensor new, fan works if hot wired. But don't want to use this way because still a problem. New temp sensor new relay, and radiator, still...

The line is continuity... it completes the ground signal back to the pcm. Then the fan is turned on. Problem most likely, connector needs replaces going to sensor... common problem. Be watchful when placing new connector on once you have spliced the new one on, since there is only one way that it fits in and might cause damage if forced in the wrong way.

How do I troubleshoot my 1993 Saturn sl1 the fan doesn't work so the car overheats, beings I'm a female, tired of depending on a am , please help

If you know for a fact the cooling fan is why the engine overheats, you would test the relay and the signal from the computer.
The relay gets power from the battery circuit and the key switch, and a ground signal from the computer when the fan is needed.
The engine temp sensor tells the computer how hot the engine is, and when it reaches 220 degrees the computer grounds the relay providing power to the fan motor.
You would need a meter or a test light and the wiring diagram for the circuit to find the problem.

Location of engine coolant temp sensor on 1995 saturn sl

On my daughters sl2 it is on the driver side. A note though, there are 2. Crazy i know, one above the other. One goes to the guage and one to the computer. When my son had the car it would not stay running at idol, had to rev the engine to keep it going. The engine would shake hard too, what through me was the guage in the care read fine but once i found the sensors the one looked fine the other looked like it split in half. Hope that helps

Cooling fan does not come on,but works when tested

You either have a bad thermostatic sensor for your off/ on switch, or bad connection between it & the fans.

1993 saturn sl1 cooling fan doesnt turn on

First unplug the electrical connector and jumper the fan to the battery.
If the fan spins, then you know that is good and you should look further back in the system. If the fan does not spin then you need to head to a junk yard and find another fan unit, any Saturn up to a 95 will most likely work. There is a temperature sensor in the head, driver side, and that is where I would look next. I believe it is an open circuit when cold and a closed circuit when engine is warm. You can check this with an ohmeter. There are two sensors there, make sure you are checking the right one. The other is for the temp gauge and ECU I believe. Advance can tell you which is which and please note the little connectors are not the same for both sensors.

98 Saturn SL AC/cooling fan will NOT work

Do not let this car over heat a blown head gasket will ensue. Locate and replace the fan relay, if that doesn't fix the problem unplug fan and use jumper wires to ground the plug then feed power to the positive side of plug to check fan, if that doesn't work replace the coolant temperature sensor located somewhere near the intake manifold or thermostat housing area.
