I had that problem a loong time ago and believe it or not it's just the thermostat! Make sure the temperature range on the thermostat isn't too low. The overdrive mechanism requires a bit more heat to kick in. Sometimes Montero owners put a lower heat thermo in to prevent engine overheating

Your Have to check your clutch lining it might be worn out. Your have to call mechanic to do this job because he will put down the entire transmission to replace that parts. This Problem Call Clutch Sliding.

I have a mitsubishi montero LS from 1995, my wagon won't start, i change the battery with a new one and it won,t start either, please let me know what could happen it has electricity and everyhing.thnaks

Before anything check yoour cable connections and any fuses; if these are fine look to the starter. This will be located on the lower right (passenger side of the engine) Start by removing the battery ground (negative) after which remove the starter; I believe they're are two larger bolts @ 14 - 17 MM. If you can have the starter test at an auto parts store. You can bench test the starter yourself if you like.
I hope this may have assisted,
Tom
