Wheel wobbles when you hit 60 mph, car shakes

When we try to reach 60 mph one wheel seems to wobble and the whole car shakes. This was worst about 2 weeks ago when we got stuck in some deep mud and had to crank the wheel to 45 degrees to get out. We hit the side of the bank a few times as well but the car didn't seem damaged. After this incident we could only go up to 50 mph before the shaking began. After some intensive power washing and car washes, we got most of the mud off but now, with no visible mud present we still have a wobble on one side and shaking when reaching 100 mph.
Do we need a new rim to that wheel? What could it be.

Problem was solved. Seems that these particular Lumina vans have very little room in the wheel rims ... hence, frozen water, caked mud and anything of the sort that gets inside the rim of the wheel and hardens causes the problems we experienced. The problem was in the back wheels. The solution: remove all four wheels, remove the tires and get into the rim where the solid has stuck and bang it out. A whole lot of work for something that would wash out with a pressure washer on another vehicle. Thanks for your help, everyone.

I think it could be a worn ball joint or tie rod. Happens on Lumina APV's. Does it happen most while riding 60 mph + and taking a slight curve on hwy?

On 98 caravan 2.4 it starts to wobble at 40up to 50 mph mostly when accelerating when speed reached smoths also smooths out after 50 mph alll new including valves. could bad wires cause this?

How old are the good tires? These speeds usually mean belt or balance problem with tires...If new tires, they need to be re-checked for balance...and not out of round...also check for bent wheel...due to chuckhole? Sometimes a bent steel wheel can be hammered straight...hope this helps.

I have an 2001 Chevy Cavalier. About 3 months ago, going about 60 I hit a center block in the road. Tire blew out and had to replace. Now the car shakes especially in the steering wheel. Also feels like...

sounds like you also damaged tie rod ends and possibly your cv axle as well. a chuck of concrete like that will cause bad damage. put car on hoist and have a close look

Steering wobbles when driving

Improperly balanced wheels can cause the wheels to wobble at speed which can be felt through the steering wheel. A local tyre shop can test the wheels for balance and make the necessary adjustments to the wheels by adding weights to even out the balance.

Death wobble in 4x4 van

Check you steering and duspension system. Check ball joints and steering linkages. With the vehicle in the floor have someone move the steering wheel side to side. Not whole turns just side to side movement while you look at the steering linkage to identify any loose parts. Then raise the vehicle and check your ball joints by grabbing top and bottom of the tires and shaking them.

Wobble at 60 mph 1993 camry

Hi if your feeling the wobble through the steering wheel then this points towards the wheel balance being out, you need to have the 2 front wheels balanced and this should stop the wobble, it may just be that a weight has fallen off one of the wheels and just needs replacing.

This is a cheap fix and can be done at any tyre fitting place, you can do it yourself as the wheels need to go onto a machine to be spun round to find out where the weights need to go.

now other possible cases could be that one of your track rod ends need replacing this will need looking at on ramps to rule out this being the cause.

if the back wheels are the same size as the from then try swapping the front with the back and see if this makes and difference.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Car wobbles

yes make sure your lug nuts are all tight and the wheels are seated properly on the hubs, if they are tight bring the car to a tire shop and have them balance the two front tires, this will tell you if you have a bent wheel please rate -jeff
