It just clicks when I turn the key in the ignition. It won't start. I tried to jump start it, thinking the battery was bad, but it still won't start.

A common problem with a car battery is low voltage. As a battery ages it losses the ability to store electricity resulting in a insufficient flow of electrical energy to the starter. The starter is designed to operate on a high amperage 12 volt system, when a starter is subjected to low voltage or amperage (flow) it will cause the starter to engage and disengage rapidly producing the machine gun like sound. To fix this problem a battery inspection or replacement is needed.

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

1996 GMC JIMMY WILL NOT START: Turn the ignition and there is a repeated clicking sound. The interior lights, radio and power windows still function. Replaced the "in line" fuel filter under the...

It sounds like you probably have a shorted battery cell. This will not only cause the repeated clicking that you described, but it will also rob power when jump-starting from another vehicle. There is probably enough power when jump starting to turn the starter over, but after the starter take the power that it needs, there is not enough power to operate the computer system....so I have no doubt that you probably are not getting any fuel. The computer has to tell the fuel pump to run. If there is no power for the computer....I think you can figure it out from here.

Replace the battery and try it again.

Won;t crank

Hi, if the car engine fails to crank, there is a fault in one of the components in the battery/ignition/starter circuit. Low battery (Check battery voltage, recharge if low, or jump start with another vehicle or battery charger). Bad starter relay/solenoid (Check for voltage at relay, if relay has voltage but there is no "click" when key is turned to start, replace relay). Bad ignition switch (Check to see if voltage reaches starter relay/solenoid when turn to start. If not, check for open P/N switch and brake or clutch pedal switch. Replace ignition switch if defective).

Car won`t start at all. Just a fast clicking sound from the engine when the ignition key is turned. The lights, radio etc all work fine.

Low battery or bad connection at terminal. Try jumping from a car that's running. If it still doesn't crank, then you have a bad solenoid.

Car doesnt always start, does not turn over, does not click, and jump starting does nothing. Can it be bad battery terminals? Wouldnt think its the starter or alternator, no noise when key is turned. Could...

the ignition maybe bad are the car is not all the way in park also check the battery to make sure it has a good charge and it does not have a bad cell in it and the terminals are clean.
