Ouch, yes your suspicions are correct, the clutches have burnt out in the transmission, Not happy news I'm sorry, cheapest alternative here is to shoot down to the dismantlers and pick up a 2nd hand one, ask them about warranty, you may be lucky and the dismantler may be able to install it for you, about a 5 hour job.
