2001 FORD FOCUS SHIFTER CABLE .THE SHIFTER CABLE SNAPPED AND I TOOK APART THE CENTER CONSOLE HEATER BOX AND CORE AS WELL AS THE AIR CLEANER BOX NOW I NEED TO KNOW, HOW DO I REMOVE IT FROM THE FIREWALL?

You did not need to remove the heater box to replace the cable. There is a hole in the floor the cable passes through.

follow it from shifter to gearbox,it probably just clicks into gearbox bracket and snaps over ball on shifter linkage,there many be cable tis or brackets holding the cable in place,will probably bolt to shifter on an adjustable linkage

Need diagram for replacing heater core



    Detach the heater core hoses at the firewall. The two black hoses attach near the firewall on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. Squeeze the hose clamps on the end of the hoses with pliers and slide the hoses from the heater core tubes.

    • 4Remove the lower passenger's-side and driver's-side dashboard panels. The two panels are held in with push-pins. Raise the center of the push-pins with a small, standard screwdriver and pull the pins from the panels. Pull the panels away from the dashboard to separate them from the dashboard.
    • 5Remove the center console. Separate the gear select trim piece from the center console, using a small standard screwdriver to pry the trim piece from the center console. Lift it over the shift knob and rotate it to clear the knob. Remove the retaining screws holding the center console in place with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the console up over the shift knob and remove it from the interior.
    • 6Remove the glove box. Open the door to the glove box. Squeeze the two retaining tabs on the ends of the glove box and pull the glove box away from the dashboard. Remove it from the interior.
    • 7Detach the drain tube from the heater core cover, which is located behind the glove box. The tube can be pulled from the heater core cover by hand. Detach the air intake duct from the bottom of the heater core cover. The air intake duct runs from the bottom of the cover to the center of the dashboard. Remove the duct by hand.
    • 8Remove the retaining screws on the black heater core cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the cover from the heater core and remove it from the interior. Remove the heater core clamp screw with a Phillips screwdriver, pull the clamp away from the heater core, then pull the heater core from the housing.
    • 9Place the replacement heater core against the housing. Place the clamp over the heater core and install the clamp retaining screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Position the heater core cover over the heater core and install the retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
    • 10Attach the drain tube and the air intake duct to the heater core cover.
    • 11Install the glove box. Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the glove box and push it into position against the dashboard. Release the tabs when the glove box is in position.
    • 12Install the center console. Guide the console over the shift knob and install the retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Slip the shift selector trim piece over the shift knob and push it into the center console.
    • 13Place the lower passenger's-side and driver's-side dashboard panel in position. Install the push-pins into the retaining holes, pushing the in center of the pin to engage the pins.
    • 14Fill the radiator with coolant. Most climates require a 50/50 mix of DEXCOOL coolant and water. 2.2L engines require 8.6 qts., 2.4L

Heater core


This is a job best left to a pro. The heater core is in the HVAC box, under the dash. You need to COMPLETELY disassemble the dash to access the HVAC box. Usually you need to remove the front seats, drop the steering column and remove the center console [if it has one] for access to remove the dash. You also have to drain the radiator & A/C system. Reassembly will require access to an A/C vacuum pump and gauge/hose set.
This job will take a pro about 8 hours to do. Sorry, but most Ford cars are a real bit*h for the amateur mechanic to do. Once you have everything apart, you can acually see the rear side of the firewall!

How to take the dash apart to replace the blower switch. On A 2000 Ford Focus


you have to first take the console covers off, remove the glove box, the ashtray, and all the screws and panel push pins. there is no short cut to getting the instrument cluster panel off. recline the front seats all the way after sliding the seats to their rear most positions. you can then access the screws that keep the console on. remove these then the shifter cover screws near the floor. after you have taken those out, remove the vent/heater covers and then lying on the floor look up and you will see all the screws that will need to be removed first.

Need to remove heater A/C dash control , what is proper procedure?


Look at fig. 4 for the heater a/c dash control: HEATER CORE Altima REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the negative (() battery cable; then, the positive (+) battery cable. NOTE: Wait for a least 3 minutes after disconnecting the battery cables for the charge in the air bag circuit to dissipate before working on the air bag module(s).
  4. Remove the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Lower lid from the steering wheel and disconnect the driver's air bag module connector
    • Left and right side lids from the steering wheel
    • Special bolts from both side of the steering wheel using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • Air bag module and store it face up
    • Horn's electrical connector and remove the steering wheel nut
    • Steering wheel from the steering column using a suitable puller
  5. Remove the passenger's side SRS by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Glove box door and the glove box
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • 2 special bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50)
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • Front passenger's air bag module and store it face up.
  6. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  7. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  8. Working in the engine compartment, disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  9. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Kick plate and dash side finisher on the driver's side
    • 2 lower panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower panel on the driver's side
    • 2 lower reinforcement panel-to-instrument panel screws and the lower reinforcement panel
    • 6 steering column cover screws, the covers, the spiral cable and combination switch
    • 2 cluster lid "A" screws and the cluster lid "A"
    • 3 combination meter screws, disconnect the electrical harness connector and remove the combination meter
    • Switch panel
    • Instrument panel lower covers
    • Snap out the transmission shifter finisher (boot)
    • 4 cluster lid "C" screws and the cluster lid "C"
    • 4 audio and deck pocket-to-instrument panel screws and the audio and deck pocket
    • 5 center console screws and the center console
    • 2 center instrument panel screws and the center panel
    • front defroster grilles
    • Front pillar garnish
    • Instrument panel 3 nuts/4 screws and the instrument panel
    • 8 instrument stay assembly nuts and the stay
    • Steering member assembly 5 nuts/1 bolt and the steering member
  10. Remove the air conditioning housing assembly by removing or disconnecting the following:
    • Refrigerant lines from the air conditioning housing assembly
    • Thermo control amp
    • Air conditioning housing assembly
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Heater unit

  12. Install or connect the following:
    • Heater core to the heater unit
    • Heater unit
  13. Install the air conditioning housing assembly by installing or connecting the following:
    • Air conditioning housing assembly
    • Thermo control amp
    • Refrigerant lines to the air conditioning housing assembly
  14. Install the instrument panel by installing or connecting the following:
    • Steering member assembly and the steering member 5 nuts/1 bolt
    • Instrument stay assembly and the 8 stay nuts
    • Instrument panel and the instrument panel 3 nuts/4 screws
    • Front pillar garnish
    • Front defroster grilles
    • Center instrument panel and the 2 center panel screws
    • Center console and the 5 center console screws
    • Audio and deck pocket and the 4 audio and deck pocket-to-instrument panel screws
    • Cluster lid "C" and the 4 cluster lid "C" screws
    • Snap in the transmission shifter finisher (boot)
    • Instrument panel lower covers
    • Switch panel
    • Combination meter, connect the electrical harness connector and install the 3 combination meter screws
    • Cluster lid "A" and the 2 cluster lid "A" screw
    • Combination switch, the spiral cable, the covers and the 6 steering column cover screws
    • Lower reinforcement panel and the 2 lower reinforcement panel-to-instrument panel screws
    • Lower panel and the 2 lower panel-to-instrument panel screws, on the driver's side
    • Kick plate and dash side finisher, on the driver's side
  15. Working in the engine compartment, connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  16. Install the passenger's side SRS by installing or connecting the following:
    • Front passenger's air bag module
    • 4 passenger's air bag-to-instrument panel nuts
    • 2 new special bolts and torque using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm)
    • Front passenger's air bag module connector
    • Glove box door and the glove box
  17. Install the driver's side SRS and steering wheel by installing or connecting the following:
    • Steering wheel to the steering column
    • Steering wheel nut and torque the nut to 22-29 ft. lbs.
    • Horn's electrical connector
    • Air bag module
    • New special bolts to both sides of the steering wheel and torque the bolts using a tamper resistant Torx wrench (T50) to 11-18 ft. lbs. (15-25 Nm).
    • Both the left and right side lids to the steering wheel
    • Lower lid to the steering wheel and connect the driver's air bag module connector
  18. Refill the cooling system.
  19. Connect the positive (+) battery cable; then, the negative (() battery cable.
  20. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  21. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Water leaking inside 2001 ford focus passenger side floor


The ford focus and Taurus models from this period are notorious for water leakage. Unfortunately it can be from two possible causes. Lets start with easiest first. The water dam (black plastic) where the windshied meets the hood (on outside) sometimes pulls away from glass allowing water to run into the crack and then into the dash and into primarily passenger side. The fix for this is listed in a TSB by Ford and the dealer can install, for a price ofcourse, a replacement damn that helps. For my sons Taurus to diagnose if this was the true problem we put a piece of clear packing tape over the place where the dam meets the windshield making sure it was sealed to glass tightly and then waited for next rain and it was dry so that fixed it. SECOND possible cause is a bad heater core. If the wetness smells sweet like radiator fluid or sugary sweet then this is probably a coroded heater core that leaks radiator fluid into the passenger compartment. It is located in center of dash closest to passenger side. Unfortunately if this is the case it needs to be replaced and a radiator shop will charge anywhere between 250 to 500 to do the job with part included. If it is the HEATER core you should check your coolant level regularly because it operates on pressure and with a leakign heater core you can lose pressure and possible have engine overheating. I have a 1996 grand prix se I believe that my heater core is leaking how hard is it to change it in this vehicle


It's a big job. The heater core is accessed from inside the car under the dash. If your car has a center console, it must be removed, along with the glove box and the under dash covers. Then you'll see the actual heater box. Removing the box will show you the core, but you'll need to go under the hood to disconnect the heater hoses before you can remove it. Obviously, you need to drain the cooling system first.
Also note, when you replace the core and put the heater box back in, the box has to be sealed for proper operation. In some cases, either RTV sealant can be used, or foam tape.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SHIFT CABLE IS BROKEN TAKE YOUR CENTER CONSLE APART BY THE SHIFTER AND YOU WILL SEE A CABLE THAT IS CONNECTED TO YOUR SHIFTER MOVE YOUR SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH AND YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR PROBLEM.

NEED TO LOCATE THE HEATER CORE IN MY 200 FORD FOCUS


The heater core is up in, and under the dash. To remove it is a rather extensive job. I'd recomend a shop manuaul. The center consol, radio, heater control, glove box, and possibly part of the steering column will need to be removed first. The hoses on the fire wall in the engine compartment will need to be disconnected. If the unit also has A/C, there are a few other items to be considered.
