Actually, you have two oxygen sensors: primary is in the exhaust manifold(under hood, center, lower engine area, above exhaust pipe flange, mounted in exhaust manifold) and the secondary is in the catalytic converter.
Since the sensor has a electrical wire on it to connect it to its connector, you will need a special wrench to remove it; they can be rented, I believe, at Autozone. Also, they tend to be quite difficult to get started for removal since they are in a manifold that gets very hot then cools down again and again.
Hope this helps you.

2001 Dodge Stratus R/T o2 Sensor Locations

Yeah, you could do that. Bank 1 is always the engine side where the number 1 cylinder is located. Sensor 1 is the first sensor in the exhaust system, nearest the engine. Sensor 2 is always located farther downstream in the exhaust.

Diagram oxygen sensor

With a single exhaust, one in each y-pipe leg, one for each bank. Sensor 1 bank 1, sensor 1 bank 2. Sensor 2 should be after the cat. Sorry, I don't have decent picture.

I need a diagram showing the location of the o2 sensors on a 2001 chevrolet impala

Why would you need a diagram?

You simply need to educate yourself

O2 Sensors have been on vehicles over 25 years, and in the same place

Sensor 1--in exhaust pipe before converter or in converter
Sensor 2 in outlet of converter

An O2 Sensor Code---Does Not mean replace it

Code po430 not sure what maybe converter

One of three (3) possibitlies:
1. Catalytic Converter is malfunctioning.
2. O2 Sensor is malfunctioning. This will be the O2 Sensor located on the Catalytic Converter. However you should check and/or replace both sensors if needed.
3. You have an Exhaust Leak.
In Order of checking:
A. Check and Repair any Exhaust Leak.
B. Replace the O2 Sensor on the Catalytic Converter 1st. Also Known as the Downstream O2 Sensor or HO2 Sensor.
C. Replace the O2 on the Exhaust Manifold prior to the Catalytic Converter. Also Known as the Upstream O2 Sensor.
D. Replace the Catalytic Converter.

O2 sensor location

DTC P0156 indicates the output voltage of the downstream Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) is less than some calibratable functional window. The possible causes are:
  1. Pinched, shorted and/or corroded wiring and pins.
  2. Crossed sensor wires
  3. Exhaust leaks.
  4. Contaminated HO2S.
  5. Bad HO2S.
Since you didnt specify the engine size in your vehicle - please see the diagram below for the location of the sensor(s)

1998 Avalon Oxegen Sensor

Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the sensor next to the head and in front of the cat converter for the head nearest the firewall. Not after the cat.
