Question about 1993 Ford Mustang

1993 mustang 5.0 has no power to starter. head lights work. the x owner tried to start the car smoke came from under the hood in the wiring

Suspect a burned-out 'fuse link'--a special section of the wiring that protects the car if certain components short out and overload the wiring (why don't they use fuses to protect these areas you ask, cheaper to use fuse links I say). Anyway, these fuse links may or may not protrude from the wiring harness, and the job of the repair person is to find the burned out link, replace it with a like device plus locate and repair/replace the shorted component. You must have a short or a wire hooked in the wrong. trace them around to the starter

What smoked ,the Fuse? SHORT ? what fuse ? Main fuse - explain ? Still no fire ? Doesn't crank , no spark ,what ? Does the starter spin the engine when you turn the key to the start position ? a crank no start condition . or a no crank - no start ! Check fuse F1 80 amp in the under hood fuse box.

You did not mention what the status of the car was when this happened (VERY IMPORTANT... DO SO NEXT TIME). If you were attempting to start the engine when this happened, your starter may have failed. Starters occasionally shunt and cause this. Try replacing the starter AND starter solenoid. Also, verify that your battery connections are good, and that the battery wires did not have a meltdown. If they are burned, REPLACE THEM as well.

Smoking from under hood


sounds like a head and or head gasket problem when u overheat u can damage warp head or blow head gasket look at oil if milky look possible getting/having antifreeze leak into oil or if white smoke coming from rear exhaust sign of antifreeze getting into cylinder

1992 4cyl mustang starter went out so i replaced it and when i went to start it the under hood cylenoid also went bad so i replaced it now the car has no power at all to the fuse box? if i tern the key...


it can be a fow thing mybe you hock the wire up wrong ! or it could be the cylenoid is bad ! an it could be the safty switch that is in the front set floor on the pasinger side up under the panel by your feet it will be a red button . look over the plastic panel by the door nere the under the dash ! an my be the key switch my have gone out ?

I have a 93 caddy deville 4.9 that wont start i have replaced the starter and when that didnt work i thought must be a bad vat switch so it was changed still no luck im getting 12 volts power to the...


The starter's mechanical 'relay' on a 90's caddy it attached to the starter, it is the solnoid and may be defective. Check your connections and harnesses for the smaller wires going to the solinoid. There probably is a standard electrical relay under the hood in the power distribution center, and it should be marked either in the owners manual or the top of the center lid itself. You can swap it out with another standard relay not needed like your ABS or horn relay to see of this is the problem.

Replaced altnator car was running / now it wont turn over at all


first check for voltage at starter with test light or voltmeter if u replaced alt without disconnecting battery u may have blown a fuse or fuseable link check fuse box under hood
