Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

1 Answer

No 4-wheel, just two-wheel

1999 Oldsmobile bravada. It has smarttrack system or an active transfer case. When in snow it will not ingage the allwheel drive. Are the systems known to go out, or should I start at looking at the fluid in the transfer case and the vacume hose. Thank you for any help that I can get.

None, the transmissions are the same. It is the T cases that are different. All wheel drive and four wheel drive T cases are different.

Replace ball joints ? when I turn the wheel the front end seems to bounce.

Are all of your tires worn evenly? Any tire size variation can cause problems with your all wheel drive. Also , the fluid in the transfer case needs to be changed regularly. Use only the correct GM fluid

AWD service light io on all wheel not working

Probably a bad transfer case encoder motor. Common problem on Bravadas. Also make sure your transfer case uses only "blue" GM Auto Trac II fluid. Flush once after driving a week with "blue" if you don't find "blue" fluid when origianlly checking. Just temporarily plugging a new encoder motor to harness should get the light to go out. Other less likely problem could be bad AWD control module or fuse.

1999 olds bravada smart trac four wheel dosent engage

Probably the transfer case encoder motor. Unplugging it at the wiring harness should make the "service awd or smart trac" light come on. This will tell you the awd controller module is probably OK. Common failure item to Bravada's. Try "thepartsladi" eBay store for lowest price motor, beware aftermarket!!! Also make sure transfer case fluid is "blue" GM Auto-Trak II only! If not bllue when checking change twice after driving for a week with blue fluid.

Probably bad encoder motor on transfer case. Also, make sure GM Auto-TracII "blue" fluid only is in the transfer case. Many encoder motor get stuck in engaged position when they fail. Try "thepartsladi" store on eBay for lowest cost OEM motor, BEWARE AFTERMARKET!

I'll bet you've also got auto locking hubs. If you do, replace them. If you don't, you might have a bad transfer case.
