Question about Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

There's a "Black Spherical" object with a tube leading to my engine that was mounted under the front bumper of my 98 Monte Carlo. It recently got knocked loose. There was liquid in it last night, but now it's empty and my car won't start. What's the problem?

That would be the vacum tank, it is unlikely that there should be liquid in it as when the motor starts the line should "****" and the liquid could enter the inlet side of the motor.follow the tube and it should go to the top of the motor, there could be a "tee", if so blank off the tube to the tank and try and start the car.

Where is the starter located on 1999 monte carlo 3.8l automatic

I'm going to attempt to be a bit more specific.

The starter should be located at the front of the engine, mounted down low by the oil pan.

Here is a video that should show what's involved. Don't let the title throw you off as it also applies to your vehicle according to the description.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2005 3.8 monte carlo that just stopped running and won't start. It will turn over but acts like it's getting no gas.

You need fuel, air, & spark for an engine to run. (Also compression, but that's getting more technical.) under the plastic cover on top of the engine is a black metal tube in the shape of a large "U". That's the fuel rail for the injectors. On it is a round object with a vacuum line to it. It is the pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line off. There should be NO fuel in the line. If there is, the diaphragm in the regulator ruptured causing the engine to flood & die. Regulator is replaceable. If this happens, CHANGE YOUR OIL before starting engine after repair! If that is not the problem, check for spark. Go buy a spark tester. Do not try to check spark by sticking a screwdriver in the end of a wire! If you do, and you have spark, the result will knock you on your a**. If no spark, cause is likely the crank sensor mounted behind the harmonic balancer. Have it replaced by someone who knows what they are doing. Chances are good the problem is one of these two things. Other possibilities are fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition module.

What parts are needed for replacing the front end of a 2001 monte carlo? I find bumper covers, reinforcements, energy absorbers, etc. Do I need some or all of these?

It depends on how far in the damage goes. Usually fenders, hood, bumper cover and headlights, but if the damage is deep, you could need a bumper, absorbers, the bumper mounts, even the radiator support assembly, which requires welding.

Pull off the damaged parts and set them aside, and then go to and click on the catalog link, fill in your make and model and look for the bodyparts you need to replace.

I need a new rear bumper for my 2002 chevy monte carlo. what all do i need besides the rear bumper cover? is this expensive? where do i buy them for cheap?

you will need the bumper and the mounting bolts. A junk yard will be your best bet for cheap. look in the yellow pages and start calling around until you find a good shop that does the work for a fair price.
