Yas it can be tested.. if you have a column shifter the switch will be located under the dash if on the console then it will be at the transmission...good luck..

Its on the trans, where the shift cable attaches. To Test it, have someone hold the key to the start position, and test if you have power to the switch. It should go in and out, usually the wire going OUT to the stater is PURPLE. Try to start the car in "N" and see if it then will crank. If you have power to the PURPLE wire , but the car doesnt crank, rap on the starter with a hammer and see if that gets it going, if so, replace the starter.

How to replace neutral safety switch in 2000 pontiac firebird

How do you know you need a park neutral switch ? Did you test for battery voltage at the starter relay ? Is the BCM - energizing the relay ? Do you have a SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? Did you test or are you guessing you need one ! If you pull the starter relay you will see 4 or 5 pins on the bottom 85-86 these are the control side , If you have battery voltage at pin 85 with someone trying to crank the engine over you don't need a neutral safety switch because the power to pin 85 comes through the neutral safety switch !

My 2000 ford f150 won;t start .i replaced the neutral safety switch, it started fine for a while but wont start now. i have to bump start.is there a relay in that circuit?

THERE IS A STARTER SOLENOID LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE RIGHT FENDER WELL. CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BATTERY VOLTAGE ON THE LARGE RED WIRE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RELAY. IF SO USE A TEST LIGHT ON THE SMALL TERMINAL, YOU SHOULD HAVE POWER TO THIS WIRE WHEN HELD IN START POSITION HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE KEY IN START WITH CLUTCH PEDAL DEPRESSED WHILE YOU CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE RELAY WITH A TEST LIGHT. IF YOU HAVE POWER THEN THE SOLENOID IS BAD

1994 pontiac sunbird;i turn key on everything inside works.turn key over i get nothing

could have faulty starter or starter solenoid.hook test light make you a test light with longer wires and 12 volt bulb with socket go junk yard find good bulb with socket.hook test light to starter and see if test light lights up if so your starter or starter solenoid has a open winding. if test light dont light up could have blowed fuse to transmission neutral switch or neutral switch could be bad.try to start vechicle in neutral if vechicle starts your transmission neutral switch out of adjustment or neutral switch faulty check make sure wires going to neutral switch is damaged.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. When I turn the key to start the car I dont get any response from the starter. I have tested the battery, checks out good. Ive replaced the starter and Im still not...

hi this could be a couple of things, have you checked the ignition relay this is the one in the fuse box, to check it, locate the fuse box, open it, and turn ignition if you hear a small click noise in the fuse box this will be the relay and is probably ok, but you can replace it just in case it is not working correctly, the neutral safety switch ( or parking switch ) is located under the center console, you will have to remove the console to get to it it should have a plunger type mechanism as you push the leaver into park it should push the plunger it just might be sticking or have dirt in it and need cleaning, just douse it in wd40 that should get it working again...hope this helps

Starter on my 2000 pontiac firebird went out , we rebuilt the starter checked the starter fuses, and also the starter wires what else can the reason be for my car not starting

The neutral safety switch, and the ignition switch can cause this problem, get a test light and start testing these areas, but start at the ignition wire on the starter to see if the stater is receiving 12 volts on it.Then the neutral safety switch, and then the ignition switch.

before u replace any parts u need to have the electronic engine control tested for trouble codes, this is the 1st thing that any shop does to know where to start the repair and diagnosis. Most likely u have a defective crankshaft position sensor, but have the test run..
