It does require some special equipment. most likely have the 9.25 axle in the truck which has adjusters on both sides of the differential that are threaded in the housing. these require a special tool to adjust and set proper backlash. also helpful to have a press with bearing pullers/installers. need a dail indicator to set backlash also

Pull the rear axles, remove axle seal. There is a special bearing removal tool that attaches to a slide hammer. Insert tool thru center of bearing and use slide hammer to pull out. Use old bearing against new bearing and tap in with hammer

Unless you are a seasoned mechanic with a lot of tools and a lift, take it to the shop. This swap is like a caesarian section on your truck. All kinds of things have to come loose, like axle shafts and crossmembers and hubs and such. Not something to learn how to do.

You must remove the rear cover on the differential and then the spider gears, then the center pin bolt and the pin then push in on the axle and remove C clip retainer inside the gear carrier and slide axle out.

Rear axle just blew out some gears, yes im going to have to replace the gears and rear diff cover, Im not made of money so i need to go as cheap as i can such as a junk yard, and im wondering whats...

since you really don't have that much cash and it takes a lot of experience to rebuild a rear end along with special tools swapping the whole axle is your best bet, just keep whichever parts are the best ie brake shoes drums etc

yes, after the rear axle is removed you have to use a large slide hammer with a special attachment on the end to get it out and the proper bearing driver to install the new one they are a very tight press fit into the housing

2002 dodge 1500 rear end making whining nosie

This could be one of several problems: If the noise increases with speed, and you are only hearing it from the rear differential and not the transmission, it could be the rear differential carrier bearings, or rear axle bearings going bad. If you are only hearing the noise upon acceleration or deceleration, the rear differential ring and/or pinion gears may be going bad and the rear differential will need an overhaul. You'll have to get the rear wheels off the ground and see if you can pinpoint the location of the noise with something such as a stethoscope. If it's coming from the rear differential, you'll need to pull the bolts and the cover to determine if the gears are still in good shape, or if there is any pitting. Same with the carrier bearings; if you see pitting/ discoloration, they'll need replacement. If the noise is coming from one side towards the end of the axle shaft near the wheel, it's most likely a axle bearing going bad, and you'll need to pull the wheels, remove the diff. cover to release the C clip which holds the rear axle in place at the differential, and pull the axle out. You also need a special tool with a slide hammer to remove the axle bearing and seal.

Can you replace the pinion bearing with out taking rear end apart will it come out the front or do you have to pull the axles on a 2001 dodge 2500 4x4 360 gas

You must remove the ring gear and pinion gear to replace the bearings, it is a big job and requires special tools like bearing race drivers and a hydraulic press
