Check engine lights sometimes do not go off right away. To reset the check engine light, disconnect your battery, turn the lights on, on your car ( to drain any power left in the computer systems), reconnect the battery and the light should be off. If it comes back on, the EGR valve was not installed properly.

If it's the 3.1L then it should be on the intake manifold on the drivers side toward to the rear of it. If not then it should be on the upper intake and the firewall right in the middle. Hope this helps! Should look like this ^
