Follow the top radiator hose to the engine, it's connected to the thermostat housing, the thermostat is in that housing.

How to change thermostat on 98 xj8l

3, 8mm bolts hold it to the t-state housing located at the end of the upper radiator hose to the engine. The new T-stat will include a new seal. (if you notice a white milky substance on the old
t-stat you have a problem which may include needing a new water pump, by I digress) Do not put any silicone on the housing or seal.

after replacement, be sure all the air is out of the system, it will need to be "burped" and topped up serveral times before you go on a long road test. Be sure to use a 50/50 mix of Jaguar anti freeze and water to fill the system.

good luck!
