Go to the auto store and rent or buy this contraption that will test each spark plug individually to find the culprit. Also, get them lazy basta.ds to hook their computer up to your dash to look for fault codes.  Its a free service but sometimes they don't want to do it cause it don't make them any money. Install new spark plugs, wires and boots, and get you a new distributor cap.

I took my 2001 civic to the mechanic to clean my egr ports because of the random misfire when he pulled the intake manifold there was oil in there can is this the problem caused by the rndm misfire

It could cause a random misfire but I can't imagine it's from the random misfire, the only way oil can get into the intake is from the pcv system, most likely the pcv valve. A little oil coating is normal but excessive amounts are usually due to the valve being stuck open

Random cylinder misfire

Scan the computer for trouble codes, unless that is where you got the random misfire code. It may point out the problem. Misfires are usually fuel/air, spark (ignition), or cylinder compression related. The pcm senses a loss of power through the crank sensor, noting the crankshaft doesn't turn as fast as it should. If it cannot isolate it to a particular cylinder, it will set the random misfire code.
Would be good to know what fuel pressure is as a start. Note that cold start problems may be fuel related, as the engine requires more fuel on a cold running engine. If the coolant temperature sensor is out of whack, the computer may not realize it is a cold engine. Just a possibility.

The plugs and crank sensor could have done it, but the TPS and idle air control would have nothing to do with a random miss.
A more likely cause is the ignition module or a fuel problem. You may have to wait until the problem is bad enough to kill the engine or you have more codes to check out.

P0300 Code 99 Chevrolet silverado 1500 5.3L

Random misfire. Computer cannot figure out which cylinder is misfiring or it occurs randomly on all 8 cylinders. A friend of mine found his ABS system was kicking in while driving down the road, feeling like the engine was missing. Computer detected it as a P0300 random misfire. He removed ABS fuse and eliminated the problem.

Random misfire on 2004 chevy tahoe z71

Use some electrical spray cleaner or tuner cleaner and give mass air flow sensor a good cleaning. then try it. If that doesn't help, a fuel system pressure test may be smart to confirm proper pressure required is there. Low fuel pressure will cause multiple random misfire as well.

Random misfire on 99 Buick LaSabre

random misfire can be due to bad sparkplug wires or a vacuum leak at the intake, there are many thing that can cause a random misfire even low fuel pressure, and last would be dirty injectors. i would start by having the fuel pressure checked and then having the injectors cleaned.

What is rundam misfire

Hi,

To my knowledge, random misfire could be described as failure of any of the sparkplugs to fire in an unpredictable manner. A misfire is any of the plugs not firing but in a given time period, predictable. Random misfire on the otherhand comes and goes, sometimes it misfires, sometimes not. This is often an indicator of a loose electrical problem which is intermittent in nature.

The error code P0300 pertains to the above described random misfire or in some instances multiple misfire. The last digit (except when zero) wold points to which cylinder is not firing.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
