If it were the thermostat, it would overheat on the road as well. Check the electric cooling fan(s) for bad bearings (spin it (them) when cold) and for intermittent electrical connections (especially the local ground connection). Blow out the radiator core with compressed air from the engine side to get rid of bugs and other debris. Hope this helps!

Overheating

Hello,

Most problems if not leaking is with thermostat valve. Find in system the thermostat valve. You can trobelshoot itself. Remove the valve from its assy an close it back. chek that is correctly closed. Dryve some miles and check the themperatur. if its ok than is problem with thermostat. If problem is not gone and car is overheating check that in system is not any air.

My 2000 tiburon is overheating. The temp gauge is not moving also I don't think the fans are kicking in. Does the temp sensor affect both of these? Also could you tell me were the sensor is?

Yes, it could be the sensor mounted on the motor. Unfortunately I do not have the book on that model so can't give you the location however, since you have to get the part anyway go to auto Zone, they are usually cheaper, and when they show you the part on the computer ask them to print the diagram of the location of that part, it is usually in a small Window in the upper left corner. They normally have no objection to doing that. If this fails to resolve the actual overheating issue replace the Thermostat.

I have a 2000 hyundai sonata. There is no heat at all and it's not overheating which I think eliminates the thermostat being bad. What do you think the problem could be?

either the flap on teh heater under the dash or the core needs a flush with the garden hose ,but the most likely cause is the flap operating cable if fiyyed or the vacumn operating device ,Iam not sure if this model is cable or vacumn though but i think the fault lies here more than it being blocked

Car is overheating when idling, is good when driving just gets very hot when stopped. have filled coolant reservoir and checked for leaks. do they have a thermostat or does the fan stop working?

Yes, your vehicle does have a thermostat; and from the scenario you described it does appear that more than likely your fan has stopped working. If after determining that your fan is in fact not coming on, you will need to diagnose whether it is actually the fan motor, something in the wiring, relay, etc.

I had problem with overheating on motorway when I drove over 60 mph i changed thermostat, radiator, thermostat housing, nothing helps. Then i find out that the problem was AIR IN THE COOLING SYSTEM try to squeeze all rubber pipes especially where is coming coolant to radiator.

Only 2 parts remaining are the thermostat and waterpump. Always start with the thermostat when diagnosing an overheating problem. If the car is overheating constantly under all conditions and coolant is backing up into the reservoir, it's very likely to be the thermostat. If it only overheats at low speed or idling, it's more likely the waterpump.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon Se overheating!

if there's water coming out of the exhaust pipe its a head gasket but it could be a bad thermostat and when your car gets to a certain temperature the fan will come on and cool it off
