Check the sencor it might be unpluged. you should get a repare manual at your auto parts store it will save you a lot of time. bobg22

Where do I add antifreeze


if you dont see radiator cap on radiator.you pour coolant in the coolant reservoir jug until coolant level stay on full cold mark.when adding coolant to coolant reservoir jug when coolant level stop dropping stay at full cold mark.you have correct amount antifreeze in radiator.

Cooling system


Raise the car front end as high as possible with a floor jack, fill the coolant tank to the top, run the engine until it reaches just short of overheating, shut it down and run water over the radiator, this will burp the air out. Repeat as needed. Don't let the coolant recovery tank run dry during procedure.

The car is overheating but ck eng light not coming on. The transmission catches hard intermittently. The rpms seem to be running higher than normal.


check for low coolant level.check coolant overflow jug if it is empty, more likely air is in the coolant system.add more coolant to overflow jug until coolant level stay at cold full mark,dont over fill coolant overflow jug.if all is good, to be on the safe side, replace radiator cap,replace thermostat,if your engine overheat at a long slow driving traffic.or long stop idling, if cooling fan dont turn on more likely engine coolant temperature sensor could be faulty.

How do i put water in my radiator?


you need to replace thermostat and radiator cap.look under hood around engine compartment.look for a radiator cap near radiator,add 50/50 antifreeze and water to coolant system to bring up boiling point.pure water will cause engine run hotter because water evaporate away,remove radiator pour coolant in the radiator until coolant stop dropping in the radiator now some vechicle pour coolant in the coolant overflow jug,pour coolant until coolant level stop dropping and the coolant level stay at cold full mark.start engie let idle few minutes, watch coolant level in radiator if coolant start dropping add more coolant, when coolant level stop dropping put radiator cap back on let engine idle until both top radaitor hose and bottom coolant hose get warm turn off engine wait until it get cool then take a large rag slightly open radiator just a litle at a time to keep from getting scaled.once radiator remove add more coolant if low,put radiator cap back on start the engine let it idle watch the temp gauge if temperature gauge going hot zone stop engine wait until cool then add more coolant,keep doing this until engine stop overheating going into hot zone and coolant level stop dropping,make the coolant overflow jug coolant level stay at full cold mark, dont let jug run empty if so air will get in the coolant system causing engine to overheat.

No my alero is overheating. I have replaced the thermostat and waterpump and put a new cap on reservior and im losing coolant out the overflow

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

INDICATOR LIGHT (COOLANT) CAME ON THIS MORNING AND STAYED ON. CAN I DRIVE IT?


As long as your temperature gauge is normal, Yes you can. It is a good thing, but, most vehicles give a coolant warning eventhough the reservior is just a little low.

You do want to add coolant in the very near future. DO NOT FILL THE RESERVIOR ALL THE WAY UP. You usually have to look pretty close, but only add coolant up to the full line on the reservior, usually 3 to 4 inches from the top. The air space is needed for expansion when the engine and coolant heat up.

Low coolant light stays on. added coolant and is still on.


Did you add the fluid to the Radiator or the Overflow container. The radiator should be full and the overflow container should have a mark on it for full. Make sure both are full. If they are then you most likely have a bad sensor that you will need to locate and replace.

check coolant if low add antifreeze if full coolant sensor could be defective unplug sensor plug then plug back up sensor is in radator or over flow tank some imports have button too turn od on and off can you tell if od is working
