If you took your cooper in and had a clutch replaced odds are the sevice tec installed a heavy duty clutch. Heavy duty clutches wear longer than light duty clutches and are always stiffer if this is the case you can take your cooper back to the service station and have them install a lightweight clutch.

If the clutch was easy to press and all of a suddon became very stiff to push, you need to check the slave cylender (sorry bad speller) and make sure it has the proper amount of brake fluid. if not top it off and pay attention to its fluid levels because the fluid should never lower and this is a sign of a leaky line somewhere in the system. Hope this helps you out.

I have a 2002 mitsubishi Lancer manual oz rally edition and I'm having trouble switching gears, like it's hard. Any idea what this might be?

If the shifter moves freely when engine is off. Its possible that the clutch is not fully dis-engaging causing stiff gear changes. May be time for a clutch

Are you sure you installed clutch plate facing right way? They are either stamped or have a tag says "flywheel side". Or might have wrong clutch kit.

I have the same car, the only solution to this problem is to tighten the clutch cable nut just as necessary until you feel that you are able to shift smoothly without forcing it, make sure you start the car to test for that.

You might have to remove the air intake in order to access the clutch cable.

If you tighten the nut too much, your clutch will feel light and you will have clutch slips. So basically keep trying until you're there. You can loosen or tighten the nut while the car is running, I'd recommend.

Had problem taking car out of gear and now having problem getting out of neutral. Clutch worked fine prior to this.

is the pedal stiff or is it real soft. could be the clutch disc or pressure plate, check the clutch master cylinder and make sure it has plenty of fluid.

Clutch pedal has become tight

it sounds as if the clutch pressure plate is on the point of collapse if you dont do anything it can blow the hydraulic seals. if it has a cable try lubricating  this before condeming it .
