Rears are very difficult that is why only a very few repair shops will touch them. You need some presision machinist tools to set it up or you will turn the gears into power in a very short time. Take it to a pro, not something you can be talked thru online.

remove the axles then the tail shaft then the bolts . You will need a chisel and hammer as the diff center will be stuck to the housing until you break the seal from the gasket sealant

When replacing my rear wheel bearing and oil seal the two small gears in the pumkins feel out I need to know how to put them back in

There should be 2 cone type washers with the gears, the washers go on the bigger part of them, they will set into the hole in the center. First, rotate the gear carrier so you can reach both sides, take both gears with the washers in place and lightly hold them at 180 degrees so they mesh with the side gears. You then rotate one axel slowly to roll the small gears into place [ this may take a couple times to get them lined up so the shaft will go back in]. When you install the locking bolt, it would be a good idea to clean the threads on both parts and use a thread locking compound.

I put new tires on my zj an they are 245 70 16 in the front they are from a junk yard an the ones in the rear are 225 70 16 i drove bought 14 miles maybe an could smell gear oil i stopped an looked an on...

no way man he told you wrong, if you run different sized tires its like changing the gear ratio. one differential is gonna be faster than the other and chew it up. thats a big difference in tire size too so you did some damage. need to demand they fix it.

1997 ford f 150 xlt 4x4 it feels like its stuck in low gears it goes in all the gears and not in 4x4

Check vacuum pod on front axle at the gear hub or pumkin it will have a black plastic cover over it this pod engages the gears for 4X4. Remove cover and spray down with WD 40.

No problem. I'm just looking to find the rear end gear ratio that's in the pickup.

It will be stamped on the differential pumkin. That is the removable part if there is one, or the center if there is no removable part.

How do i change the spider gears in a 2004 chevy silverado 1500

Take off pumkin cover, on center pin in the diff there is a bolt on the botton of the bigger opening that holds pin in place, take the bolt out of the pin and tap the pin out. You have to tap out one side to get out one gear, then tap the pin back through and do the same thing for the other gear. Once you get the upper and lower gears out there are C clips that you have to take out so you can slide the axles out at the two middle gears will pop out.

2002 Saturn Lseries trouble putting into gear at starup.

It has to be shift lock solenoid (actuator). When this solenoid goes out it makes it so you can't put the vehicle into gear. Replace this and your vehicle will go back to normal. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. Thanks for using FixYa!

Look on the back of the wheels by going under the vehicle. and tell me if you see a light oil. I am sure yours is a sealed pumkin. If not the oil in the pumkin may have leaked out
